In reply, Chennai lost in-form opener Ruturaj Gaikwad early, and the pressure was on them. But Ajinkya Rahane and Devon Conway played some good shots and added 68 runs for the second wicket to put Chennai back in the game. However, Conway's wicket triggered a collapse, and Chennai found themselves at 113-6. But MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja saved fighting, and with some outstanding power-hitting, took the healthy to the remaining over, desiring 5 runs to win in last ball.
With the crowd on their feet, Sandeep Sharma took the ball and bowled the ultimate over.. Dhoni hit a sixers off the 3rd and 4th ball, and it seemed like Chennai would win. CSK lost the match because of poor fielding with 3 dropped catches and a missed runout, while RR took some difficult catches. Although RR was better equipped to handle the spin at Chepauk, CSK could have won the match if they had fielded better.
