It's Hard Out Here For a Pimp: March 23 2025
Inside of the cabbage I cooked up today. Thought it looked cool.
Today was a pretty good day. Went to church and went shopping and then relaxed for a little bit and cooked up a good meal. This mill is actually something I kind of made up with the help of Grok. I asked for a new recipe to make on my blackstone grill. And one of Grok's suggestions, was shrimp tacos. My family's not big on shrimp, so after some back and forth with Grok, I eventually settled on doing pineapple teryaki marinated pork loin and some pineapple-teryaki fried rice.
I wish I took more pictures of the process, but I didn't. It started with the purple cabbage though. I've never cooked cabbage in my life, let alone on a griddle. I kind of winged it. I just put some bacon grease on there, some garlic, salt and pepper, and a little bit of cajun seasoning. I was actually most impressed with this because it actually came out good.
Next I had to sear the pineapples. This actually took a lot longer than I thought it would. They came out eventually though. I cut a little less than half of them up and left the rest whole.
I failed to get any pics of the pork or fried rice cooking, but they were both seasoned by pineapple teryaki marinade. The pork came out tender and flavorful. The rice came out sticky and somewhat savory with a little bit of sweetness.
This is the final pic of the pork. It was a little caramelized and, as I said before, very tender. The finished rice is below.
This is how it came out. It was a really big metal bowl. That was about 3 cups (uncooked) of rice.
I finished the day with over 11,000 steps. I also had over 60 active minutes. I also got 10 flights of stairs.
Continuing with the theme: Each night I post the song that was playing as I ended the workout and use that as the title for the post for that day. Today's song is Hard Out Here For a Pimp, by DJ. Okay, really this song is made by 36 Mafia, but for me it will always be DJ from the movie Hustle and Flow.
I love this movie and I love this scene too. It's one of the best scenes in the movie and very powerful. On the surface, it just seems like a story about a rapper and crime and prostitution. But really it's about so much more. It's about people overcome in their station in life through using both the talents and hardships God has placed in their paths. Each actor has both internal and external struggles that they overcome at least for short moments throughout the film. It's a great movie. If you've never seen it, I highly recommend it.
Well that's going to have to do it for today. I've been trying to get to sleep earlier. So I'm going to start to turn down for the night. Tomorrow's goals are 14000 steps and 2 LCHF meals logged.
