Unsteady: February 5 2025
Image taken and edited by me
The photo above was taken a while ago on a day that was similar to today. A dreary, cold and depressing day. I wrote about that day, the photo and the tragedy it represented in a poem titled Rainy Ribbons. There was no tragedy today, thank God, but it wore me down nonetheless.
It actually started out pretty good. I got up and started being productive pretty early. I went to work and got a lot of stuff done. I think I might have done too much though. But don't tell my wife, or I'll never hear the end of it. By the end of the day, I was drained. The song for today was fitting because when I got home I was stressed and literally unsteady. I pushed through, helping my daughter with her homework and eating a makeshift dinner, and eventually I was able to decompress a little bit. I even managed to walk for a bit and meet my step goal, which I had honestly written off as unattainable today.
Today I finished with just above 7k steps. I didn't have many active minutes, and I didn't have very many flights of stairs and that's OK. I did manage to stay well under my calorie goal for the day too, which meant I met both of my goals today which I found kind of amazing.
Continuing with the theme: Each night I post the song that was playing as I ended the workout and use that as the title for the post for that day. Today, that song was Unsteady by xAmbassadors. I don't know much about this song or the artists' stated meaning behind it, but to me it seems to be about going through the trials and tribulations of life. Maybe losing someone, maybe stress. But its also about drawing strength from those around you to keep you upright when you're starting to slip. I've definitely had those moments in my life. Some people will never know how much their kindness, friendship or even the slightest gesture of encouragement helped me through some of my most challenging times.
Well, let me go ahead and get this posted. Tomorrow, I'm going to make a soft goal of 5000 steps and 1800 calories. We'll see how I feel. See y'all later.
