Sanctuary of Saint Mary Magdalene

What is the happiest day for a mother of a student living in another city?

...

The one when the student comes home for the weekend.

Yes, it could hardly be a happier circumstance because the mere presence of the young man gives us joy and fulfilment; we don't need anything else.

Maybe if we combine it with a small family excursion together, then it can add to the happiness...? Yes, it is truly wonderful then. Our weekend is now going like this: son plus excursion equals perfection. That's me up there, you see my joy.

The day couldn't have been more beautiful! Sunny, with pleasant temperatures on this last day of November. We decided to make a short visit to a place that is not so far from us. It is the first time we have visited it, although I see it from afar every time I pass by on the highway. Well, I saw some towers and realized it would be a church or a castle, I wasn't sure. The map helped us resolve our doubts and find the place easily; it was a pleasant surprise.

The towers I saw from afar were the towers of the Sanctuary of Saint Mary Magdalene placed on the mountain La Mola.

You can get here by car and park in the car park, or by motorbike, bicycle or on foot. The latter can be a bit tricky, as the path leading up to this point is quite steep, but if you are fit, nothing is impossible.

Do I see a little owl? @elbuhito secretly visits this place too? 👀

When you leave the parking lot you can meet this guy with a trumpet and a board with info about the spring "Three Friends". We went down to the spring and met some friendly cats. So cuddly they were! After some moments spent there, we continued toward the sanctuary.

As I mentioned, one of the vehicles that can help you arrive here is the bicycle. Young or not so young, it doesn't matter. Kudos to these people!

Once we found ourselves in front of this huge church, we realized that it had some resemblance to the works of Antonio Gaudi. The truth is that the engineer José Sala Sala, who designed this sanctuary, got some inspiration from the modernist style of Gaudi.

Maybe you see that it is much more modest than for example Gaudi's Sagrada Família in Barcelona, however, this sanctuary is unique in the world in its shape.

It is shaped like a jar, symbolizing the jar of balm that Saint Mary Magdalene brought to Jesus.

Trying to get the whole building into a photo, so the attempt made me take several pictures from different angles. Now I can't choose just one photo, sorry for too many photos. 😅

Details from the facade:

The interior of the church is not too heavy in decoration, which is nice actually. One important detail - I saw the stone pillars that gave me good vibes however, the more interesting feature of this church is the work around the organ. It is still under construction and once finished, it will also be unique in the world - an organ made entirely of marble!!

1000008845.jpg

1000008847.jpg

1000008936.jpg

I am pretty sure I will come back here to investigate more about this future marble organ and how it will sound. The poster I saw in the church called it "The sound of the stone" - that will be interesting to hear, and maybe even try to play the marble organ.

Apart from this church, on the top of this mountain La Mola, there is an old fortress, better said, the remains of it. That will come in a separate post, but today I would also like to mention the place where was the old church. It is marked with a cross and inscription about it.

The new one, that we visited today, and you too through this post, was completed just in 1946. A relatively young building that gives the vibes of an old stone construction and, as we saw, is unique in some features. Really hope to see the marble organ working one day!

I love the construction! And if I think that thebuhito goes around at night, there is no doubt in my mind, he travels a lot, he flies!

But the most impressive thing is the marble organ!!!! I hope it will be ready soon and you will be able to go there!

I loved it so much!😍

Hahaha, yes, probably Buhito flies there at night, that's why I didn't meet it today, just in a photo :D Enough proof we have on that board 😁

I can't imagine how it will sound, el sonido de la piedra, but I believe it will be unique!

I'm sure he's on his way to get back to you... the evidence is conclusive hahaha

Will you be allowed to play the piano? I hope so!

Well, I don't know if I would be allowed to try to organ if it will be finished - I hope so 😉

I also take several photos from different angles and then I don't know which one to choose haha and then comes the bombardment of photos that look the same, but they are not haha how beautiful! 😍

At this moment I'm thinking of asking Buhito for explanations, how come he's traveling around the world and I don't know about it? At least he can take me with him 😂 Did he at least say hello to you? 🦉

Yeah, I think you should ask him, as this is a remote place and not for little owls to fly around alone at nights. And nope, he didn't say me hello, he was in complete silence! I think he was afraid as he knew I would tell you about his visits

He doesn't even say hello and gets into places where he shouldn't, he's scared hahaha I have him next to me and he's looking at me with a “I didn't do it” face 🦉

That look says it all 😂

What a beautiful place!!! When I saw it I thought of Gaudí immediately, that style is unmistakeable and I see that there was something of that (without taking away merit from Mr. Double Sala).

I'm very jealous of that sun. Here we have been foggy for several days... 🙈

Enjoy the family, including the lazy one who didn't want to go up there. 😜🤣

Mr double Sala 😂

Oh, fog? There is mystery in fog, but I know sun brings happiness, so I hope it will cover your city soon. Like tomorrow morning already, as now it will be difficult hahah, at 22h 😁

Thank you, that one also went up there later 😉

Había niebla por aquí también esta mañana, bueno, más en la costa (Benidorm y Calpe) y luego al regresar ya salió el sol 🌞

The architecture and especially the exterior is obviously under a Gaudi influence and that's why this cathedral is so interesting.
Spain is such a country so blessed with beauty that I know you will have an endless supply of blog topics. I am glad that I will have the opportunity to see many more such interesting things...

I, who am a father, knew what is the happiest day for a mother of a student living in another city.
I wish you a useful and relaxing weekend, @mipiano!

Mothers and fathers - we all feel joy when our children visit us ;))

About Spain and blogs - there are places we visited, some of them already a long time ago, but I still didn't post them 🤦‍♀ But one is in drafts at least, from the place we visited one year ago, I just need to organize the photos in order first and then write 😅

Likewise, I have a lot of blog reservations, and many I've forgotten about.
I'm a big fan of the Mediterranean relief, climate and nature and I'm waiting to see what else you will offer to our eyes.
