Drunk ping-pong championships?

Here in my town, there's a place I really like. It's a kind of bar, a bit different from the conventional one. I always go there for two reasons: the first is that there are always bands from the alternative underground scene who don't go to other conventional places; the second reason is that there are always some really cool ping-pong competitions.

The fun part of this competition, which was the last one I took part in, is that most of the time the competitors are drunk, which makes it even cooler. Before the show, there are always these competitions organized by the owner of the venue, and he sponsors the prizes with gifts such as beer or even snacks. Most of the people who are there to see the show take part, and it's quite a spectacle; the atmosphere becomes even more relaxed and lively.

What I like most about these competitions is that it connects strangers, and I've already made some friends because of this relaxed rivalry. Last time, one of the contestants was a member of the band that would be playing there that night, and I had always admired the guy's work and listened to his music. I never imagined that I would meet him by playing a ping-pong match against him! After our match, which I won, we ended up making a passing friendship and even had fun together that night and shared some gifts!

As well as meeting this musician I'm a fan of, I ended up being one of the best in the competition that night. I was eliminated in the semi-finals to the guy who was going to be that night's champion. I only play ping-pong when I go to this bar, so I don't have much practice, but I'm very good, as I used to spend hours playing it with my friends growing up. I'm sure that if I spent a few days practicing, I could easily win this competition there.

I haven't been to this bar for a few months now; my life has been very hectic, but I feel very much like going back and being more frequent. It's not just the drinks, but the atmosphere and the people who go there; they're really nice people that ping-pong and music have given me, and a really nice connection is being built. The space is very good and there's even a skate park on site, where events and competitions for skateboarders also take place. But as I haven't skateboarded for many years, I don't even venture into this more radical competition and prefer to stick to ping-pong, where I can show off my skills better.

Finally, this competition has brought back my emotions from when I was a child, and a feeling of nostalgia fills me every time I go to this place to compete for a few drinks and have a good time. This is an occasion that is very valuable to me, it broadens my friendships and provides moments of fun, relieving some of the stress of everyday life. A competition where there's no pressure to win or be better, but which induces you to have fun and let out a few laughs is a really nice thing to take part in!

Aqui na minha cidade, tem um lugar que eu gosto muito. É uma espécie de bar, um pouco diferente do convencional. Eu sempre vou lá por dois motivos: o primeiro é que sempre se apresentam umas bandas do meio alternativo underground que não vão em outros lugares convencionais; o segundo motivo é que sempre acontecem umas competições bem legais de ping-pong.

A parte divertida dessa competição, que foi a última em que participei, é que na maioria das vezes os competidores estão bêbados, o que deixa tudo ainda mais legal. Antes do show, sempre acontecem essas competições organizadas pelo dono do local, e ele patrocina a premiação com brindes como cerveja ou mesmo quitutes. A maioria das pessoas que está nesse lugar para ver o show participa, e isso é um espetáculo à parte; o ambiente fica ainda mais descontraído e agitado.

O que eu mais gosto nessas competições é que ela conecta pessoas desconhecidas, e eu já fiz algumas amizades por conta dessa rivalidade descontraída. Da última vez, um dos participantes do campeonato era um integrante da banda que iria tocar lá naquela noite, e eu sempre admirei o trabalho desse cara e sempre ouvia suas músicas. Eu nunca imaginei que iria conhecê-lo disputando uma partida de ping-pong contra ele! Depois da nossa partida, que eu ganhei, acabamos fazendo uma amizade passageira e ainda nos divertimos juntos naquela noite e compartilhamos alguns brindes!

Além de conhecer esse músico do qual sou fã, acabei ficando entre os melhores da noite na competição. Fui eliminado na semifinal para o cara que seria o campeão daquela noite. Eu só jogo ping-pong quando vou a esse bar, então não tenho tanta prática, mas sou muito bom, pois na minha infância passava horas jogando isso com meus amigos. Tenho certeza de que se passar alguns dias praticando, posso ganhar facilmente essa competição por lá.

Já tem alguns meses que não vou a esse bar; minha vida tem sido muito agitada, mas sinto muita vontade de voltar lá e ser mais frequente. Não é apenas pelos drinks, mas sim pelo ambiente e as pessoas que vão lá; são pessoas bem legais que o ping-pong e a música me presentearam, e está sendo construída uma conexão bem legal. O espaço é muito bom e tem até mesmo uma pista de skate no local, onde também acontecem eventos e competições para skatistas. Mas como tem muitos anos que não ando de skate, eu nem me aventuro nessa competição mais radical e prefiro ficar apenas no ping-pong, onde posso mostrar melhor as minhas habilidades.

Por fim, essa competição reviveu as minhas emoções de quando era criança, e um sentimento de nostalgia me preenche sempre que vou a esse lugar disputar por algumas bebidas e me divertir. Essa é uma ocasião que tem muito valor para mim, amplia as minhas amizades e proporciona momentos de diversão, aliviando um pouco o estresse do dia-a-dia. Uma competição onde não existe pressão para ganhar ou ser melhor, mas sim que induz a se divertir e colocar alguns risos para fora é uma coisa bem legal de se participar!
