Royal Navy Sheep. My Actifit Report Card: August 19 2024
Bangsbo Fort used to protect the Kattegat. Built by Germany when they occupied Denmark. Quite an obvious spot - high ground rising from the sea (well, this is Denmark, so “high” means 80m asl but still quite a rise immediately from the beach). The hill is dotted with remains of gun beds and bunkers (some few dozen of them). This is a museum.
What’s interesting that the Danish Royal Navy who own the area (the bunkers are not needed any more but radar stations come handy) employ… sheep to keep the spot from overgrowth. The sheep do their job excellently, just be careful when walking there - they live their “business cards” in the grass…
@bucipuci - here’s another hatch from Denmark. This time Frederikshavn. The “havn” suffix means “port” (btw, the Danish capital is København, with „køb” meaning „to trade”, so in essence the capital city is named „trading port”), so you can guess whose port it is.
There’s a tradition from early XX century that every king of Denmark with the name Frederik should sign a rock deposited over the city by glaciers. So far there are 3 signatures, including one of the current His Majesty.
