Hiking in such time? My Actifit Report Card: March 5 2022
If you are a regular reader of my @actifit and #alive updates, you would know that Saturday is my hiking day. Late Feb, I planned all Saturdays in March.
But how could I go hiking in such times? I had mixed feelings and many doubts. In the end, I decided to go and hike. Selfish?
Yes and no. Yes, as I could have helped in receiving a new group of refugees in the temporary shelter that we had set up at my church. On the other hand, the passing week has been very busy. Today is Sunday and I am back to the volunteering work, full time. It’s going to be a busy day. Morning in the church, making sure all the people we have there are ok and their basic needs are met. Then I will give a ride to family for whom we have found a house. It will take the whole afternoon.
God created us in such a way that we need to rest one day out of seven. Hiking for me is resting. Nothing clears my head better than mountains and especially winter mountains. So I did hike and rested well yesterday. I also used the hiking trip to advocate for my cause. The results:
- one person of my hiking party will help me today with the transfer. She will drive with me and will not ask for any reimbursement for fuel/time. The family we need to transport are 6 (Mom, Grandma and 4 kids) so I cannot squeeze them into my car. This will relieve a friend from my church to do other work
- another happens to work at a pharmacy. During the last crazy days I have developed an infection in my right eye but haven't had time to see a doctor. The companion is not a doctor, but still she knows a thing or two. She went with me to a pharmacy, talked with the seller and together they figured out a potion. After applying it last night, my eye looks better now and I am ready for the challenges of the day. Having in mind I have to drive, it’s not trivial thing. Hard to drive with a swollen eye lid….
- all women from the group declared to help with cloths. We are receiving women and children. They had left their country sometimes with just a small carry on. Buying new cloths for everyone is out of question so such help is very valuable.
Lesson learned yesterday: help in a wise way. That includes doing something for myself. One day out of seven. Stay #AliveAndThriving
