My Actifit Report Card: February 23 2024 - Unexpected Inferno: Ordinary Day, Extraordinary Turn

Today was not supposed to be a special day.

At least, that's what I thought.

The only thing that deviated from the norm was the doctor's appointment I had this morning.

Otherwise, my normal list included some cleaning and schoolwork.

My doctor's office is within walking distance, so I walked there first.

Why take the car when you can start the day off right with a brisk walk?

And the first steps on my pedometer are already a fact.

It's 5 degrees Celsius, so my winter coat and a lovely warm scarf are still very welcome.

But the cold air outside wakes up my sleepy head.

Although I would rather put it off, I still have to start cleaning my bathroom.

It's not the most fun chore in the house, but it's necessary - hygiene is a must.

Soon it is lunchtime, but it is rudely interrupted by sirens.

With a roaring speed, the fire brigade drives into my street and parks the fire engine a little further on, where dark clouds of smoke are coming from the backyard.

The small shed behind the house is on fire.

The flames are high and the wind that is blowing helps them to spread further to the house.

My street has both owner-occupied and rental homes.

The rental homes are connected to each other and have only a small backyard.

In which everything is also compactly placed against each other.

The shed is only two meters from the house, but the flames still manage to find their way to the roof of the house.

It is very unfortunate that the roof at the back of the house, facing south, is completely covered with solar panels.

And that is exactly where the fire has spread.

The fire brigade has no choice but to remove the solar panels to gain access to the fire.

Extinguishing the fire now has little effect.

The water does not reach the heart of the fire.

Some of the solar panels have already been swallowed by the fire from below and flames are finding their way out.

The neighboring house is also unlucky.

The fire has already spread there.

In the meantime, there are already 6 different fire engines in the street.

From ordinary fire engines to aerial ladders, and the police are making sure that everyone stays at a safe distance.

Unfortunately, I have to leave this exciting scene to go to work at school.

The afternoon is otherwise very boring compared to the commotion in my neighborhood.

A nice contrast to this day.

When I come home later, peace has returned to the street.

The fire is out and the damage to the house is extensive.

Thank God that that is all it is. Material damage.

No one was injured.

The residents have been taken in by family and will not be able to live at home for the time being.

In addition to fire damage, there is also a lot of water damage to their house from the firefighting.

Let's hope they are well-insured.

This experience, like a sudden downpour, grounded me.

It served as a stark reminder to be grateful for the simple things - the roof over our heads, the warmth of loved ones, the food that nourishes us.

The day that began ordinary had become extraordinary, reminding me that life, like a flame, can be unpredictable, its embers capable of both destruction and illumination.
