Time For Early Wildcard?

It's just three games into the season and I'm already having a feeling of déjà vu. Without mincing words, my FPL season is already in absolute shambles. GW 1 delivered decent points return; GW2 and 3 have been terrible. All of a sudden, my carefully planned season is unraveling.

Top managers in the game always have more than a plan for the season. But considering the quickly shifting shape of FPL and the unpredictability that comes with it due to injuries, loss of form or some Guardiola wannabes chomping and changing their tactics and starting 11 with impunity, this is becoming harder than it used to.

Admittedly, I didn't start drafting or planning as early as I should, the team I was able to conjure still looked impressive till they conjured below 50 points in two straight games. If that doesn't set alarm bells ringing, nothing else will. Injury robbed me of a starting £4.5 midfielder in Chukwuemeka. Di Zerbi dropped Joao Pedro (£5.5) to the bench for reasons known to him. And with Haaland (£14.0) and Salah (£12.5) taking about a quarter of the budget, getting a solid cast around those two is becoming a serious task.

The big decision: Salah Out?
Mohammed Salah is FPL royalty. Since he joined the Anfield mob his numbers have been unbelievable. Even in seasons where he struggled he still posted good numbers. But is his influence in FPL on the wane? Has he been relegated from the select few of players who belonged in the 'must have' category?

My ideal scenario would've been for Salah to join one of the 'Al' clubs in Saudi Arabia. His absence means no one gets an advantage. At £12.5, he's the most expensive midfielder in the game. In fact, aside from Salah, the crooked De Bruyne (£10.3) is the only midfielder above £9.0. With Salah gone and De Bruyne out, one will have at least £3.5 to spread that is assuming he is replaced with Rashford or Son, the only two mids priced at £9.0.

If Salah stays, I'm either in massive trouble or up for some serious gains. If he recaptures his best form then he becomes a serious differential due to his somewhat subdued 27.3% ownership rate. If he doesn't, I'm left with a £12.5 dude hugging all the money. So far, Luiz Diaz (£7.7) has outperformed Salah. Small sample size, yes, but about 13.7% managers chose the Colombian ahead of Salah. The price difference of £4.8 can do wonders in other positions of the team.

Finally, I'll be holding my wildcard for now. Brighton's wing forwards showed like a million stars in their first two games. With West Ham putting them in check and a raft of ridiculously difficult amount of matches to come (they play five of last season's top 7 in the next six games), I'll be holding my interest in Mitoma or March. Also, I hope Guardiola will get a life and play Ake from the start. However, it'll probably be easier to excel at rocket science than to predict what the Pep roulette will dish out.

Till next time, see ya!

Chaii I really wished I know a thing or two about football so that I can fully understand this. It's only that "Salah" guys name I think I have heard before.

Thanks for sharing.

Well, that one you have heard before is somewhat enough. Shows you've been around football discussions before.✌

Thanks for stopping by.

Salah and De Bruyne are great players. Whenever they are playing for man city united, I feel excited watching. This post was too deep for me because I am not too into gaming.. although I love football but not a consistent fan

Thanks for sharing this insights
