The Worst Season Ever For FPL Chips?
When double game week 25 was upon us, most managers licked their lips in anticipation. FPL points magnet, Erling Haaland was back from injury, fully fit and raring to go. And with two games against an underperforming Chelsea and a struggling Brentford before him, the table was set for Haaland to feast. About 1.3Million FPL managers slapped the triple captain band on his arm. Sure points haul, right?
After an unbelievably wasteful performance against Chelsea, he eventually got the only goal against Brentford. With that, Haaland gathered 10 points meaning 30 points for those who triple captained him. On first look, 30 points looks decent. But, on second thought, that's the worst points return for a triple captain not named Haaland in the last three seasons.
Mo' Salah delivered 28 points which equates to 84 points for those who triple captained him in DGW 26 of the 21/22 season. Rashford didn't disappoint last season when he delivered 20 points (x3=60 points) in DGW 22. So, as far as I'm concerned, Haaland did disappoint. For now, it looks unimportant; but it may become very important if Haaland or another player hauls massively in the upcoming DGW. Till then, I'll keep my fingers crossed.
And, as if the triple captain disappointment is not enough, it looks like the Free Hit is about to conform to pattern. Anywhere they may be, the about 1.7Million managers that played the Free Hit chip this week will be looking to the West Ham vs Aston Villa match for redemption. Just one match to go and the highest point so far is 70. Except the likes of Bowen, Kudus, Areola, Luiz and Watkins deliver double digit points, this Free Hit will comfortably pass as one of the worst Free Hits ever deployed. What a season we are having!
As for me, I've always been an advocate for playing chips towards the end of the season except when an unmistakable opportunity appears during the season. Anyway, I might as well still regret not playing those chips early. But, for now, it looks like my decision is spot on. Afterall, I am locked on the same points tally and can still win my H2H tie against an opponent that played the Free Hit chip. It will be funny if a team of six players wins against that of 11 players. That's not supposed to happen.
It's been a crazy season so far.
