Luego de la dolorosa derrota vivida el pasado jueves en el estadio Olímpico de Caracas frente a Brasil, la vinotinto disputaba una fecha más de eliminatorias, en esta ocasión tocaba el turno de enfrentar a Ecuador, un rival bastante fuerte, con buen fútbol, y ubicado como el tercer mejor equipo hasta el momento de estas eliminatorias mundialistas, la obligación de ganar era más que evidente y los dirigidos por Leonardo González estaban claros de ello, la presión por los tres puntos se reflejaba en los rostros vinotinto, una noche acompañada por una lluvia que refrescaba el corazón de miles de soñadores venezolanos que se hacían presente en el estadio Olímpico, un ambiente que se tornaba algo pesado antes del pitido inicial pero en el que las esperanzas seguían intactas dejando de lado las circunstancias.
