Hiking in Pilat Natural Regional Park - My Actifit Report Card: May 10 2022

Hey Actifitters,

You may have already seen these hills on the cover picture, they've been pictured in my posts quite often the last few days. Well yesterday I finally went there to hike on them! I picked up my cousin at the train station mid-morning and we drove the 45 minutes or so needed to get up there at one of the trailheads. We also included a quick stop to buy local delicacies, like ham sandwiches, quiches, and more...
Right from the start, the view was already great, even if the sun was somewhat hidden by big clouds.

Also near the trailhead, at the Cret de Bote, is this military building. I'm not sure it's still used for anything, but it's definitely a great location to see far away in all directions.

My cousin and I are usually not the best at finding our ways, but with the help of many signs, we didn't have to backtrack too often.

Not too far from the start, we found this memorial about an american plane that crashed during World War 2.

The scenery changed a bit after that as we entered a forest.

But it quickly opened back up, and after about an hour and a half, we stopped for lunch with these great views all around us.

When we started back, we found more of these rock 'fields'. Apparently they are quite typical from the area.

We found our way back through a different path, almost making a full loop. The scenery was similar, so even though I took way more pictures of course, I'll stop there.

Overall, it was about 10km with only about 350 meters elevation gain. Not too strenuous and perfect for a nice day hike, especially if you don't want to start early and just want to enjoy the scenery.

The pinmapple pin is near La Jasserie, where you can usually get food and drinks, but it was closed unfortunately. Good thing we brought our own! We had our lunch a bit after that point.

Back home, the sun was still shining and Sam was impatient to go on a walk (pretty sure he would have really enjoyed the hike by the way). It was cool to think we were on these hills just a few hours before.

Sam didn't care though.

And I can't finish this post without a sunset of course!

Especially when it's behind these very same hills.

One last view of these hills for today. Just a couple more days before flying back home and leaving them a few thousand miles behind...
