Football is a huge sport. Very global. Talk about controlling this sport. You might say UEFA, or FIFA? Well you are right but that's just the football side of things. But whenever something becomes this big, as big football is, it attracts a lot of attention from every level of the world's hierarchy. Football couldn't outrun this either. And yes football isn't the power itself. Something else controls football. There is an industry that controls football. Uses it to it's benefit. You might think the sports industry. Companies like Nike, Adidas, Puma. But no they don't control football, they just influence people connected to football. Now I'll cut beating around the bush and jump straight to the point. Let's talk about sports washing.
Sports washing generally means to use sports to wash your bad or hindering reputation. Now you might say, how is sports support wash someone's wrongdoings. But think this. Sports have been around since like forever. It has been a means of recreation for mind and health. Something that can only be good. And someone who sympathizes sports and organizes it for the masses and automatically respected and spoken well of. Try to relate I'm sure you can relate. Well, that thing is happening with football. Why? Because it's easily the biggest sport in the world. If you're connected to it you can't be an entire monster, you must have some heart. Playing with emotions that is.
Well, the controlling industry of football I was talking about? Guess which is the most notorious industry. The oil and gas industry. And unsurprisingly the world's wealthiest industry happens the control the world's biggest sport. Don't know how? Okay look, Chelsea was owned by Oil tycoon Roman Abramovic as of few weeks ago. So that is Russia. Manchester City is owned by the state of UAE. Saudi Arabian state (PIF is a shadow company) owns Newcastle. And the Qatari state owns Paris Saint Germain.
Four of the most wealthiest oil and gas countries owns 4 distinct big clubs. And they have made those clubs big that's for sure. We all know about Chelsea's meteoric rise. And how PSG is pumping money left right and center to keep their players put. Manchester City also spending near a billion backing pep guardiola. Newcastle are newly bought but the owners also target high honors by spending big. Now look at the sponsors. You beloved clubs Barcelona and Real Madrid also have worn shirts of Qatar airways and Fly Emirates which were pumped by oil money of course. Look at gazprom. The state owned energy company from Russia is sponsor to the champions league itself. Also a sponsor of FC Schalke. Energy companies and companies funded by energy companies are all around football, everywhere. Gazprom's marketing director cleared it out for us about Schalke. He said that gazprom wants to reach the German people. To tell them the story of gazprom. And want to be nice in their eyes. Every energy company wants the same. Why gazprom wanted that? So that Germany wouldn't cut their gas line from Russia (Nord Stream 2) who are Russia's biggest energy importers. Gazprom wanted to keep a good image in Germany so that they could continue business in Germany.
People over the years have always despised the politics between oil giants. Whether international or geo. And now these giants are using sports to look nice to the public and also securing a huge revenue stream in exchange for a non renewable energy.
