About the Quote
Part of doing God's will is our knowing what He has planned for us. Some of us are better at discerning that that others, and that's not a knock on those who don't; that's just the way it is, and most of us are in the latter category. For those in that later category, a good proxy for choosing to do God's will is to do the right thing.
The right thing already includes following basic rules of conduct such as not to kill and not to steal. The right thing also includes treating other people the way we want to be treated, and that's usually with respect and consideration.
Romantic love is by its nature limited, but a more general love for our fellow brothers and sisters in humanity is needed and easier to achieve. At the very least, we should not want harm to befall anyone, and we should want them to live in peace. Even if we hate someone's guts and want to scream at people, we should want them to find peace and well-being so that they no longer drive us (and others) crazy.
