About the Quote
Part of developing as a person is to associate with people who are where you want to be in life. If you want to be
- a professional athlete, don't hang out with lazy people;
- financially wealthy, don't spend time on lottery lines;
- a leader of people, associate with demotivational people.
- happy, don't be around miserable people.
People who are where you want to be in the future can teach you the tips, techniques, and philosophies they used to be where they are. The can share the wisdom they acquired on their own journeys.
Those who are where you want to be should be used as role models because they understand what you're going through. They found ways to overcome the same obstacles facing us. If they can overcome adversity to achieve, then so can we.
Some (More) Information about Nadia Comăneci
In the 1976 American Cup held in New York, New York, US, Nadia Comăneci became the first gymnast to perform a backward double salto as a dismount maneuver in the uneven bars event.
Peak Nadia came at the 1976 Montréal Summer Games. At the Olympics she received seven perfect scores of 10.000. By the end of the Olympics, she had wone 5 Olympic Medals: Gold for balance beam; Gold for uneven bars; Gold for the all-around individual competition; Silver for the team competition; and Bronze for floor exercise. For these achievements, which brought honor to her native land, she was named a Hero of Socialist Labour.
Nadia Comăneci's performance was so dominant and unprecedented that the theme music she had been using at the Olympics (the theme from the soap opera "The Young and the Restless") had been renamed "Nadia's Theme" for future events. To go even further, the theme won the 1977 Grammy Award for becoming an internation hit thanks to its association with Nadia Comăneci's legendary Olympic performance.
The next two years were disappointing by comparison. She finished in 4th place at the 1978 World Championships. She missed most of 1979's competition schedule with an infected hand.
Although she would not match her performance from the 1976 Montréal Summer Games, she returned to her winning ways for the 1980 Moscow Summer Games. She won Olympic Gold Medals in both balance beam and floor exercise events; for the floor exercise, Nadia Comăneci shared the Gold Medal with Nelli Kim of the USSR. Comăneci also won Olympic Silver Medals for team competition and for the all-around individual competion; she would share the Silver Medal with Maxi Gnauck of the DDR (a.k.a. East Germany).
In 1984, Nadia Comăneci retired from gymnastics competiton as an athlete, but she maintained her connection to the sport.
