Stephen Curry: Underrated is a pretty good documentary that shows the life of the basketball superstar, the film is directed by Peter Nicks and focuses on two key periods in Curry's life which are his college years at Davidson and his most recent NBA championship with the Golden State Warriors. I think it's not your typical sports documentary where they just play replays and talk about how great a player is, it doesn't just present more of the success story but takes the time to present the trials and uncertainty that Curry had to go through.

The film begins by showing Curry's college years when he was a thin man who didn't seem to have the figure to pursue basketball, it's crazy to watch videos of young Steph and realize how small he was in comparison to the other players, the film is very good with the plot is Curry who went unnoticed by all the big time college recruiters and went on to play at Davidson, a free arts college that had gone almost four decades without winning a single game in a tournament. Most of the story revolves around Curry's time at Davidson and how he went from an obscure freshman to a college basketball star, the documentary shows a lot of clips of his games where it reflects his struggles early in his career, shooting the ball all over the place, it's good to see how his coach Bob McKillop believed in him when things weren't going well, the film also shows how Curry's discipline and persistence started to pay off as he guided Davidson through that good run in the tournament.

The film also goes to the present to see Curry chasing another NBA title with the Warriors, I found it exciting to see how the film made a connection between these two stages of Curry's life and explained how the experience he gained in college is still relevant in the pros, at this stage you see his workouts, injuries and how he tries to carry basketball with his family responsibilities. I think what I liked most about this film is that it does not hide or minimize Curry's failures and difficulties, here we witness the shots he misses the mistakes he makes and the people around him who do not believe in him, this makes his success more deserved and achievable, and certainly there is no one better than him to get that message across, this film also focuses a lot on Curry's attempt to complete his college studies while in the NBA, something that is quite difficult.

La película también se va al presente para ver a Curry persiguiendo otro título de la NBA con los Warriors, me pareció emocionante ver cómo la película establecía una conexión entre estas dos etapas de la vida de Curry y explicaba cómo la experiencia que adquirió en la universidad sigue siendo relevante en los profesionales, en esta etapa se ven sus entrenamientos, lesiones y la forma en que trata de llevar el baloncesto con sus responsabilidades familiares. Creo que lo que más me ha gustado de esta película es que no oculta ni minimiza los fracasos y las dificultades de Curry, aquí somos testigos de los tiros que falla de los errores que comete y de las personas que lo rodean que no creen en él, esto hace que su éxito sea más merecido y alcanzable, y sin duda no hay nadie mejor que él para hacer llegar ese mensaje, esta película también se centra mucho en el intento de Curry de completar sus estudios universitarios mientras está en la NBA, algo que es bastante díficil.

I thought it was a good sports documentary, I like that it's not a promo about how great Curry is, but rather explains his progress and the effort he put in to achieve his success, the way they broke down the story of Curry's college years and how they mimicked his pro career was good to be able to better understand his process in the game and the trials he had to overcome, the movie moves back and forth between Curry's life in college and his more recent NBA games in a very well done way because it captures the changes in his skills, while the basic moves remain the same. I also liked that the movie didn't just focus on basketball and it was good to see Curry trying to finish his college studies, it's great to see a superstar athlete want to study and keep a word he made to his mother. The movie has some pretty emotional parts, one of the scenes is when Curry records the most three pointers of all time at Madison Square Garden and how they show his reaction is great, in his face you can see the real surprise as if he can't believe what he has accomplished.

Me ha parecido un buen documental deportivo, me gusta que no sea una promoción sobre lo genial que es Curry, sino que explique su progreso y el esfuerzo que hizo para lograr su éxito, la forma en que desglosaron la historia de los años universitarios de Curry y cómo imitaron su carrera profesional fue buena para poder entender mejor su proceso en el juego y las pruebas que tuvo que superar, la película avanza y retrocede entre la vida de Curry en la universidad y sus partidos más recientes en la NBA de una manera muy bien hecha porque capta los cambios en sus habilidades, mientras que los movimientos básicos siguen siendo los mismos. También me gustó que la película no se centrara únicamente en el básquet y fue bueno ver a Curry intentando terminar sus estudios universitarios, es genial ver a una superestrella del deporte querer estudiar y cumplir una palabra que hizo a su madre. La película tiene partes bastante emotivas, una de las escenas es cuando Curry registra el mayor número de triples de todos los tiempos en el Madison Square Garden y cómo muestran su reacción es genial, en su cara se ve la sorpresa real como si no pudiera creerse lo que ha logrado.

In the end of the movie we see how Curry and the Warriors get another NBA title and it seems well deserved to me with all that Curry has had to go through, what I liked the most was when he was finally able to graduate from Davidson College, the best moments of Curry's accomplishments at Davidson and in his NBA career are shown during his graduation ceremony, the scene of Curry receiving his diploma and then clutching the NBA champion trophy connects very well in the movie, the message that this movie left me with is that for Curry the important thing is not the championships or the records, the important thing is the journey, the followers and the principles, I know that Curry's story is not complete and that he will continue to strive and overcome adversity and is a good example to always keep going even if many obstacles are presented. Stephen Curry: Underrated is a good sports documentary that goes far beyond showing some cool clips and celebrating the greatness of some athlete, you can see the sweat, effort and hard work behind the charm, I like basketball but I think this is not about that, it's always nice to see a person come out of their shadows and achieve their goals.
