My Actifit Journal: Sep 10 2023
Heya Hiva,
Ready or not.. here I come!
Today I've found myself going around in circles.. quite literally in fact. Whilst the rainy season seemingly refuses to loosen its hold on Cape Town (despite officially now being Spring), I've had the enlightening opportunity to traverse interior windows - peering outward. It gave me the opportunity to slow down and look inward - much like this curious snail looking at me.
They really are cool when you come to think about it. Super opportunistic marvels, coming out to glide in the rain. We can learn a lot from them in this regard.. if only we try to slow down and think about that for a second. They're so brilliant at that in fact haha - slowing down. I mean.. each day is such a rush for many of us - which is how we miss so much of the awesomeness going on right before our eyes. Yes, so let's do that! I want to think like a snail, and slow right down. When I do, I'm reminded by my heart, that today is their turn for some fun; and isn't it only fair for us to share with other remarkable lifeforms?!
Nature serves as our blueprint on how we may better ourselves. So what lessons have we learned from this curious scene? We should slow down, so that we may think more clearly. It's important to seize opportunities, for we never know when the next rain will come. Knowing where we wanna go beforehand, allows us to set out heading on somewhere potentially worthwhile. Obstacles can be overcome. Finally, we should not be afraid to change direction should the need arise. Slow n steady, steps met ;)
Seeking peace,
ma3str0

Snails are really awesome my friend!
😄
I have heard you can tell how old they are, by counting the rings on the outside of the shell!
Enjoy your rainy day, and congratulations on the healthy 5K @actifit steps take care!😄
They are indeed my friend!.. they bring me so much joy when I see them (remind me of cartoon characters). I usually have to be careful when I walk around outside in wet weather, as I am traumatized if I accidentally hurt any.
That's really interesting with regards to the rings.. kinda like a tree stump then I guess. I had no idea, but makes sense when I think about it. Thanks for letting me know! That's dope! #legend
You are so correct when we hike in rainy weather, you have to watch your step the snails come out !😇😊
🐌🐌
Such a different perspective of the snail! We have some nice ones here, but I haven't found them on the windows to get that perspective.
Did you know if you count the spirals in it's shell, each line is a year of it's life. The oldest I've found is 7 years and the youngest, 3 years.
Yes, we could all use with slowing down and really taking a look at life and the nature around us for sure!
Good job with your 5079 @actifit steps for the day. Take care!
If you get the chance to see one passing by on a window and look very close.. it seems as if their body is kinda pulsating as they move. I'm not sure what's happening from a biological perspective, but I suspect it may have something to do with how they move perhaps?..
I had no idea about the rings, until reading another reply a little while back. That's fantastic! 7 years! - wild. I now have a whole new world to explore in my daily steps haha. Keep well my friend, and thanks so much for the cool comment.
You are very welcome! I find snails fascinating and love to photograph them. Take care!
There are indeed my friend. Please take care too!

Great photos of that snail.
(That Cycle event, I went to over the weekend was in Thabazimbi, and in the afternoon at around 5 my car still indicated 35 degrees Celsius, it is really hot and dry in that part of our country, so many contrasts in SA.)
Lol.. I find them so adorable haha.
35 is hectic! ..that also seems extreme for this time of year. To cycle in that sort of weather must have been brutal. Hope you were able to remain well hydrated my friend. I wouldn't mind a 30 right bout now lmao. Cape Town feels quite chilly the last few days. Keep well my friend.
Luckily, we started at 7:30 in the morning and it was not that hot yet.
Beautiful snail shots! I share those thoughts about slowing down to enjoy the wonders that nature gives us. The rat race steals our lives. ♥️🤗
Thanks my dear friend for that - you are so kind. Snails are too cute haha.. and they're determined in where they want to go. Despite their pace, they get there as well - over any obstacles in their path. I need to think more like them in general. You're so right about the rat race.. it's one of the aspects which led me to having an emotional breakdown some years ago 🌻
I'm getting back from mine. I am grateful to have broken up when I was just over 40 years old because I have (supposedly) the other half of my life left to really live it. 😁
I liked the snails determination, good lesson learned today. Thank you! 🤗
As a single lgbtqia+ dude turning 40 myself in March.. your reply serves as encouragement for the latter years - despite the obvious challenges which lay ahead.
I am convinced that it happens to us because we have reached the point of maturity. Remember the snail: move slowly but sure to your destination. 😘
