Let's reflect on Italian football
Let's reflect on Italian football
One of the most historic soccer in the world, suffering a historic crisis
A second consecutive elimination from the World Cup for Italy, which has 4 in its record and it is not that they have not been champions for 50 years, it is something unthinkable, just 18 years ago they obtained the fourth world title, while in 2012 they achieved reach the final of the European Championship, falling defeated against Spain and 9 years later, they went to Wembley to face England for a new final, where they would be European champions after more than 5 decades, but it is not only the absence of the world championship, if not that they have also been eliminated in the group stage of 2010 and 2014, the World Cups after their coronation in Germany 2006, the Azurra for the 2026 World Cup will accumulate 12 years without being in a World Cup match and with the tendency they have, it would be necessary to see if they are classified. Of course you have to talk about a crisis when you talk about the current situation of the Italian team and it is that as a team they have lost all their prestige in Europe and their competitiveness, setting aside what was achieved during the qualifying rounds for the European Championship and the European Championship, which they won with very good football and where they achieved the longest unbeaten streak in the history of national team football with 37 games, a record that is currently threatened by Scaloni's Argentina, but it is that, after their European championship, it was expected that Italy competed in a great way for the UEFA Nation League, however, the Italians fell to a Spain that was quite superior and missed the chance to play a new final, thus ending their great undefeated and then, in knockouts, a group where his biggest rival was Swiss, ended up getting too complicated, being key the moments in which Jorginho missed 2 penalties between the Swiss, any of them, gave the pass to the World Cup to Italy, a terrible situation.
But it is that the Italian crisis is not only reflected in its selected team, the last European champion was Mourinho's Inter more than 10 years ago, in addition to the fact that in the last decade, AC Milan, the largest in Italy in Europe, did not competed for the Champions League being in one of the worst times in its history, while Juventus was the protagonist but equally and faithful to its tradition, they lost 2 Champions League finals, pawns, Rome and Atalanta had specific moments of great level but ended up giving in to the crisis, while the rest of the teams, such as Napoli or Fiorentina, are not capable of transcending in a lower level competition such as the Europa League, the crisis is becoming more and more acute and it is that when the Italians do not they win the games is because they really played badly, we saw that with confidence and a good display of Mancini's ideas they are capable of winning a European Championship, but when they do not compete, they see themselves as just another team from the bunch, although the reasons for finding Finding the root of these great failures in Italian football is simple, there is no project for Serie A, which is the highest club circuit in Italy and there are no rules that promote the progress of the youth area, in addition to there being a collective selfishness between the Italian clubs with their players and with their rival clubs that keep them stagnant, we see how all of Milan made fun of Donnarumma for the elimination in Paris and how they also made fun of the Italian goalkeeper in the defeat against Macedonia that left his country without a World Cup, the same Italians criticizing soccer players from teams that are not as big as Berardi, Belotti, Ciro, everyone pulls for their side in Italy and as long as they don't understand this and Serie A doesn't plant the seed of a solid project, they won't progress collectively as a league and their national football is going to progress even less.
There is zero support for the Italian promises and it is that if we look at the minor categories, we find more foreigners, in which millions are invested, than Italians, likewise, we have a boring Serie A where no team is capable of competing with the big ones and where we find hegemonies like that of Juventus, champion of Calcio for 9 years in a row, all the teams and the federation must unite in search of consolidating a project because they did not expect that with this structural disaster, Roberto Mancini will work miracles and solve it with the 23 players who give themselves to him, knowing that it is something far beyond Italian footballers.
What do you think? How would they solve the crisis of the Azurra?
Thank you very much for reading, hiver´s.
The Italian side is having a rough time of late and until they fix the ground roots they will always struggle. You need the children to be playing competitive football and build from there as the Serie A league is not exactly a high standard. The games need to be of a higher quality and offering players a tax free salary hasn't worked for foreign players as they haven't exactly arrived asking for contracts.
Interesting mention of taxes on salaries, curiously one of the reasons that led Ronaldo to go from Madrid to Juventus was the high price he paid to the Spaniards

Italian football has been suffering for the best part of a decade. The issues with racism and anti-entertaining football has deeply affected their reputation as well. It's a defensive league, but people want to see free flowing football and goals.
Fans like those of Lazio are very difficult to control, problems like this should not be seen in top-level football
Yep that's true. Unfortunately racism is systematic in some places and until Serie A and Italy can stamp it out, it'll always be a blemish on football. I wrote about it 9 months ago

It's rather unfortunate that Italy has lost all her prestige in Europe as pertaining to football. Just recently, we saw how they failed to qualify for the World Cup, which is not impressive for such a big-name country. Not just that, Italian football clubs have been unable to excel in European competitions like the UEFA Champions League.
I think more quality and attention should be given to the Serie A and other sub-leagues in the country by those in the hem of the affairs. That way, an improvement resulting in a different story could ensue.
While Italian football may have been suffering in the past decade, they've shown that they have what it takes to excel, especially with the run of Mancini's team to win the Euros.
I think the loss to Macedonia was just unfortunate as they had over 30 attempts in that game and how cruel football can be that those count for nothing against just one moment of wonder from a far inferior team.
I consider the same, and apparently the federation is the same since they ratified Mancini as coach for the 2026 World Cup process
Don't you reckon that he's the right man for the job?
Robert Mancini? of course
Lol... Yeah. 👍
