Hoy es 27 de julio de 2023 y hoy se cumplen 30 años del record mundial de Javier Sotomayor para el salto de altura.

Casi se me escapa el día pero quería rescatar el hecho por esa cota, ya mítica, de 2.45 metros está en poder de un hombre de esta tierra desde el 27 de julio de 1993.
Se escribe rápido, se dice fácil pero es un asunto de otra galaxia, no lo duden jamás.

El registro fue conseguido en Salamanca, en el Estadio Helmántico de esta ciudad española que tanta tradición posee en el llamado deporte Rey.

Cuando 'El Soto' saltó 2.45m superó en 1cm su propio récord mundial previo de 2.44 metros, que también había establecido en San Juan, Puerto Rico, en 1989.

Este 27 de julio he tenido la oportunidad de asistir a una de las celebraciones que se han hecho en honor a este aniversario cerrado. Estuvimos en la Embajada de España y compartimos espacio con el protagonista y mucha gente de su entorno y del universo de la cultura, el deporte y la prensa nacional.

Javier Sotomayor quien es reconocido por su técnica y estilo de salto elegante, así como por su capacidad para mantener una consistencia asombrosa en alturas increíblemente altas es, ante todo un gran hombre.
Un caballero comprometido con su impronta, con su isla, con su pueblo y con su gente, y eso también es un gran record.

El 2.45m en tanto, es una hazaña impresionante que ha dejado una huella duradera en la historia del atletismo.

Y es igualmente importante mencionar que, además de su récord al aire libre, Sotomayor también posee el récord mundial en salto de altura bajo techo, que es de 2.43 metros, establecido el 4 de marzo de 1989 en Budapest, Hungría.

Javier Sotomayor es una leyenda del atletismo y su dominio en el salto de altura ha sido una inspiración para muchos atletas en todo el mundo. Su récord es un hito excepcional y es un referente para futuras generaciones de saltadores de altura.

Y seguirá, porque siendo sinceros no se vislumbra en el horizonte alguien con la capacidad de quebrarlo en el futuro cercano .

This July 27 I have had the opportunity to attend one of the celebrations that have been held in honor of this closed anniversary. We were at the Spanish Embassy and we shared a space with the protagonist and many people from his environment and from the world of culture, sports and the national press.

Javier Sotomayor who is renowned for his elegant jumping technique and style, as well as his ability to maintain amazing consistency at unbelievably high heights, is first and foremost a great man. A gentleman committed to his imprint, to his island, to his town and to his people, and that is also a great record.
