My Actifit Report Card: July 6 2022

My son and I were going to play NSRA this afternoon, it is a difficult eighteen-hole course that I often have issues with. The big rule on this course is, "never throw into the rough."

On the first throw, he really put some power on the disc and released it a bit off the line with too much anhyzer. We both watched as it sailed off in the distance into the rough.

I thought he would get it back right away but after I could see he could not find it I went over to help. We searched and searched and a guy with a dog came over to help too but nobody could find the disc. My son did not want to give up right away because he had just purchased it and liked the disc a lot.

After he finally called off the search I laid up my second throw into the fairway. It is a 651-foot par four so it is usually not tempting for me to reach the island in two throws. Sometimes I even lay up the third throw and take a bogey if I don't think I can reach the island.

My son crushed another throw hard from where he went out of bounds on the first throw. It stayed in bounds for a few feet and drifted out of bounds into a tree near the island. If it had not hit the tree it might have had a chance to make it back in bounds on the island.

Luckily it did not take him long to come up with the disc and get it out from under the bushes with my disc recovery tool.

At that point, we were both hesitant to go on since he was not playing so well and was a bit tired. I asked if he wanted to try a different course but he just felt like going home.

I ended up playing a short nine-hole course after we got back. I wanted to try a couple of discs out. One of them I had picked up at the last tournament I played and the other I had found on NSRA and never heard back from the owner.

The one I got from the tournament was my first DGA disc called the Sail. It was rated speed 11 with a -3 turn. I figured it might be a good replacement for the GStar Mamba disc if I ever lost that. The Mamba is rated at speed 11 with a -5 turn.

It was a bit windy when I was trying out the Sail disc but it seemed very understable. It did not seem like a speed eleven disc at all, it was more like a speed eight. If I threw it hard it would turn really hard and was super uncontrollable. I'll need to try it out a bit more but it seems less stable than the Mamba and might stay on the shelf since I like the graphic.

The other disc was the Discraft Heat and rated at 9 speed, 6 glide, -3 turn, and 1 fade. It seemed a bit more stable and I could put a bit more power on it.

Both discs are a bit less stable than I generally like. I think the Heat disc will be a good hole six at NSRA disc though. This is a hole where I tend to lose discs but I like throwing something understable to get over all the tree farm trees without having to throw it too hard. Something too stable on this throw usually fades too far out left and can't be found.

My new disc has turned into a decoration:

I was thinking when I saw the photo from the outside, that if I didn't know you played with discs....this might look like a row of plates on a kitchen shelf.

It sounds like a good thing, to get to try different discs without buying them. LOL... That way if they are only good for decor, you aren't out any money.
