Postcards from Thailand #50: Whoops!

It had been a good weekend. My new bit of wall was finished, there were no cancellations and just a minor wheelbarrow issue that was quickly sorted.

Right up until one of the parents came back in and asked if I could give him a push.

I thought his car wouldn't start until I went out and found the front wheel in a hole next to the house and the underside of the car resting on the floor!

Seems a cover over one of the drain soakaways had collapsed when he'd reversed over it. Very odd as I park there and never had a problem as well as it being under 6 inch of soil and made from reinforced concrete.

No matter, I walked off to find a tow rope and get my car to pull him out.

It took me a few minutes to find the rope but in my absence, the builders, who'd just been getting ready to leave, and the father in law were filling the hole with rocks and trying to lever the car out with a couple of lengths of 2 by 4s.

Not bright...

It took me two minutes to attach the rope and gently pull him out backwards.

No damage to the car and no problem.

So now, I was left with half a hole which needed to be a whole hole to be able to function in its intended purpose so out comes the shovel and thirty minutes of sweat to empty the pipe and prepare it for a new, extra deep lid which is now on order.

Chickens turned up to watch and bag a few bugs that came up with the soil, and I got some free exercise.

Thais don't half love to make a drama out of a crisis. The guy even offered to buy me a new drain cover, which was bizarre, considering it was our broken drain cover his car dropped into!

I can't believe we're almost at the end of the week already. I hope everyone's having a good one and looking forward to the weekend.

I wonder what unexpected chores I can expect next, here in 'paradise'!
