Since moving to Koh Samui, I seem to have found myself a new job title. Chief skivvy. And so yesterday, it was the MiLs turn to request the help of my bottomless pot of wisdom and DIY genius with a sentence I'd never heard uttered in my life before...
Can you fix my sewing machine, ka?
She said in Thai, and which I had no idea what she'd actually said until she placed the pictured box on my lap.
I'd never given a thought in my life to sewing machines before, let alone changed or bought a sewing machine motor! What was even more bizarre was the motif had arrived from China and the box and details were all printed in English!
That's it really. It just tickled me as it was such a random thing. The whole job took 15 minutes and the MiL was soon happily back to seamstresing away and I was back to the more mundane chores of changing lightbulbs and removing Thai porn from the FiLs phone.
I was 57 last week .and after 12 years in this barking mad country, there are still things on an almost daily basis that are either new to me, totally bonkers, or normally. Both!
