Postcards from Thailand #13: My Acti-Golden-Tree-Snake Report Card: April 27 2023

We were just sat outside having a nice cup of tea when we had a visitor drop by...

This beautiful fella, I say fella, it could have been a girl just quietly and smoothly slid past everyone's feet just having a look for a few tasty morsels of gecko and tukay. I'm sure an odd baby rat or two wouldn't have gone amiss but as we were only having tea and biscuits, didn't stay long!

Probably the most common, and to me, most beautiful, snake in Thailand, this is a Golden Tree Snake, so called because it spends most of its time up trees and has the amazing ability to 'fly' between trees from on branch to another thanks to its rather flat and wing-like body shape.

It's mildly venomous but not to humans so it's nothing to be afraid of. It's also a rather timid snake and I've seen many and none showed any form of aggression, even when getting close-up for a photo.

This looked like an adult, being well over a metre long.

I hope it realises how lucky it was that I was there to protect it from psychopath MiL's machete. She really doesn't like snakes even though it's probably doing a sterling job keeping the local rat population at bay.

I love seeing the wildlife up close and personal.

Hope everyone is having a great week and piling on the steps :-)

This creates such an image of the Mil in full tradition Thai combat gear and you, bare chested, kilted and face painted, rushing around the garden hollering and screaming as you slashed away at everything that moves whilst the Englishman, the Burmese and the snakes cowered, trembled behind a tree.

Note to self: Google a snake's ability to tremble !

Have a great weekend. May your machetes be sharp and your local squirrels be fearful!
