My Actifit Report Card: April 26 2022
Awful migraine all day today. Pretty much no progress on anything, except for a little work for the client who I’m getting some stuff done for. When I say little work, though, I mean it. I probably put in like an hour and a half total, and that was the highlight of my day.
I’ve been basically incapable of most of what I usually do. I’m sub-one-thousand steps, which only happens when things are really rough, though at least it was accompanied by not eating as much since I couldn’t make myself get up to go to the kitchen and prep anything.
My foot’s better, but still a little worrisome. I had pain in it this morning for no apparent reason, and it feels tight and tense in ways that I don’t like. Hopefully that’s part of a healing process and not something going wrong. I could go to a doctor and get it checked out, but since they can’t do anything to fix it as far as I know and I’d rather not rack up more medical bills I think I’m going to see if it starts showing good signs of improvement by the end of the week before I go to get it checked out.
I’ve been getting some glee out of Twitter. I’d like to point out that nothing’s really changed, and I see a few people misbehaving in ways that are probably still going to get them banned. But it’s been nothing but unmitigated salt.
There was a leaked call with some of the heads of Twitter, and I have to say that despite what a lot of the headlines are making out I think they generally–or at least Parag did. Some of the others are a little less dignified, and obviously the lower-level employees are freaking out. Sounds like the deal’s been set up in a way that they don’t have any material considerations to worry about, but there are certainly loud complainers. What portion of the company falls into that category and what portion is ambivalent or supportive of Musk is something I don’t have any willingness to speculate on, but I think it’s going to be a significant change as far as corporate culture and probably involve a lot of people quitting.
As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, or perhaps here (I’m in a good deal of pain right now, and even if I weren’t mid-migraine thoughts tend to be confused), I think Elon taking over Twitter is a good thing for the platform and the world more generally, though there’s also some consideration to be paid to the idea that Twitter is probably not as influential as people pretend it is.
I also don’t think Elon Musk perfectly agrees with my ideas, but that’s fine. I’ll take small victories.
It’s a lie that I didn’t get anything else done today, but I really didn’t get much done in the way of writing. I selected some 1910s-era art to put in as companions to Carrion Birds. My goal is to have it blend sort of a traditional tabletop RPG aesthetic with a coffee-table book, certainly having a bit more of an artistic bent to it.
Plus, it features historical information and other ideas that are going to be quasi-educational from the right perspective, so why not combine that with a smidge of art history?
With all of this in mind, I think today wasn’t a total wash, but it’s certainly not the sort of day I can afford to have many of.
