My Actifit Report Card: April 10 2022
Not a lot of writing today, but that’s okay for a Sunday. With that said, I think it is time to get a little more disciplined about my use of time during the day, especially as I have more products moving into the layout/editing/publishing step and I won’t have as much easy writing opportunities to just hammer stuff out.
Of course, I could go back to writing essays, but I can spend several hours on an essay and get enough words to look good on paper without any meaningful return on investment, whereas when I spend a lot of time doing other stuff I generally have something to show for it.
However, I also just need to make sure all my medical stuff gets taken care of.
I’m going to bed early today both because I’m tired and because I want to orient my schedule around earlier mornings. If I’m feeling well enough to walk, that’s when I’d still have a chance, since it’ll be cooler then than it is later in the day.
If I’m not, then at least I might be able to hit a burst of productivity early in the morning and then keep up my schedule. I’m typically lightly productive in fits and starts throughout the day and most effective in the evening, but back when I was in my prime I would work in the morning then again in the evening. When I’ve been getting up later (I mean, 7 or 8 AM as opposed to 5 AM) I wind up with less time in the day, so to speak, because I find that the mid-day just doesn’t wind up being a productive time.
You’d think that an altered sleep schedule would simply alter when I work well, but maybe it’s something that I’m just not conscious of. It could be that there’s enough bustle and noise during the day that I don’t notice but which has a significant effect on my writing. I certainly can do other things–that’s one upside of working for a client–like doing some layout or design work, but I tend to need a clear prompt and direction to work and I just haven’t been fortunate enough to have one.
Carrion Birds is coming along nicely. I suspect it’ll come out to about 15,000 words, maybe 20,000 (and unlike previous cases of estimation, that should be correct because I’m merging and rewriting two rulebooks) and have a relatively positive response. The mechanics are very simple, but they’re simple in a way that works.
Kenoma and Cybrine Dreams really need a lot of effort to get finished and I’m in a bit of despair. The book on libertarianism is coming along better, but with editing there’s just not much to report. I don’t have breakthroughs or eureka moments, just “oh hey, this section needed to be made less wordy” experiences.
