My Actifit Report Card: March 7 2022
Went for a walk, very nearly hit 10k steps today (might before the post, but not by the time of writing). Feeling good overall. In fact, I’m feeling really good. Money’s a worry, of course, but when isn’t it? The economy looks like it’s liable to go straight in the crapper, and I’m not sure what that means for me. On one hand, I’m not exactly in great shape, but on the other hand if we do have a lot of inflation and then I find a new job (if I can’t make self-employment work, which I’m a little more optimistic about but can’t guarantee), I think I’ll be able to make better money by looking later than looking now.
Of course, one downside is that if gas prices go the way they’re going I just might not really have options about where I work, though there are always places within walking distance of where I live if I’m not too picky about the sort of work. Having a liberal arts degree is kind of a shame in many ways. Or maybe I’ll go back to get some training. I’ve been thinking about taking up CNC or some other practical manufacturing skills.
I have an offer from my parents to receive some financial support in exchange for pursuing education, and I figure that doing some classwork would be possible along with my writing. If the writing takes off, I’ve got that, and if not, I’ve gained technical skills that might give me a more effective job option than the stuff I’ve got. It’s not that I couldn’t make a living teaching or doing something like that, but I don’t feel that it’s as productive as what I might get down to otherwise. Plus, I’m old enough now that I don’t have the young risk-taking part of being a man left in me, which means that I’m not going to be tempted to fool around with power tools. In fact, I think it would probably do me some spiritual good.
That sounds kind of hippy-trippy, I know, but I think there’s something to be said for acquiring a little masculinity. Plus, if WWIII breaks out I don’t want to be caught with an English degree in a foxhole. I’d much rather be stuck in a factory. Plus, I might be more useful to a post-apocalyptic survivor group with those skills.
Didn’t get an excess of writing done, but some of that comes down to doing that editing and review of Cybrine Dreams.
The good news is that I’m definitely back into vibing with Cybrine Dreams. It’s kind of a weird setting because it’s post-cataclysmic neo-feudal sufficiently advanced science fiction, which is a bunch of stuff that probably gives you 100% of the setting if you’re familiar with what it all means but which likewise is so incredibly niche that it’s going to have to be shown, rather than told.
I’m questioning the decisions I’ve made by going with an absolutely vague setting that deals with generic types and then leaving the specifics for the GM to decide on, but maybe I’ll include enough fiction to cover some of the gap there, though that means that I need to plan on getting the fiction written which can be a significant progress-blocker.
Did another episode of my podcast, which is live on some of the platforms. That’s episode three. Unfortunately, my laptop fans have decided to act up. I don’t know if they’ll quiet down like they did a couple weeks ago, but that means that there’s almost certainly something wrong with the ball bearings. I don’t want to mess anything up by taking it apart, so I’ll probably return it to the factory for maintenance, so I’ll need to figure out a solution.
In any case, that’s probably the last podcast episode for a while. I’m counting each podcast as a thousand words in my goal to write a million words this year (yes, I’m doing it again, even though I haven’t raised much of a fuss about it because I was really into it for a few weeks last year and then burned out).
