En una edición llena de sorpresas, el Rólex Masters 1000 de Montecarlo ha estado amenizado, por un tenista que se ha destacado por su pasión y entrega a la hora de defender sus puntos y sobre todo al momento de recibir los servicios rivales. Este joven de 22 años se ha convertido en la revelación de la justa, por lo antes expuesto y además, por esa capacidad para reacomodarse durante los marcadores adversos.

El nacido en Málaga ha ido superando cada etapa del primer Masters sobre pistas lentas, de una manera más que notable; en primera ronda superó al estadounidense Marcos Girón, en sets corridos, para luego enfrentarse al número uno del mundo, el serbio Novak Djokovic, a quien eliminó de manera escandalosa (un tercer set en 6 - 1).
