“A la tercera va la vencida” reza un famoso dicho en mi tierra, pues eso es lo que ha sucedido el día de ayer con el tercer choque de Sir Andy Murray y el polaco Hubert Hurkacz, recién ingresado al coto privado de los mejores, al top ten del tenis mundial; un privilegio al que muy pocos acceden en este deporte tan competitivo. Pues en este tercer capítulo de la batalla, el número 156 del ranking ha dado la campanada, una que resuena en los rincones del mundo de las raquetas, por lo significativo de obtener un resultado favorable, ante un muchacho 10 años más joven y quien ostenta una de las mejores técnicas de la actualidad.

El primer enfrentamiento entre Huber y Andy, se realizó en el reciente Masters de Cincinnati; una segunda réplica se viviría en el torneo francés de Metz y en ambos duelos, el polaco logró salir victorioso con el mismo marcador 7 – 6 (4) y 6 – 3 (curiosidades en el tenis). No obstante, el destino ha vuelto a cruzar las cuerdas de sus raquetas tan solo un mes después, esa es una de las cosas grandes del deporte, que te regala nuevas oportunidades para hacer un nuevo intento de hacerlo mejor.

Ya he comentado en alguna publicación anterior, lo bien que le va en este tipo de superficies (Dura – bajo techo), aunque también representa la más riesgosa, por el impacto que ocasiona en sus articulaciones. Pero esto parece no importarle al británico, dado que al entrar a la pista y comenzar el partido, parece activar una especie de suiche en modo máquina y corre cada pelota, cada tiro y cada punto, como si jamás se hubiese retirado, como si jamás hubiese sido operado de su cadera, en la que su implante de titanio parece ya algo natural.

Este partido, correspondiente al APT Tour 500 de Viena y que se realiza en las instalaciones del Wiener Stadthalle de la capital austriaca; ha sido testigo de la muestra de pundonor y constancia por parte de Andy, que inicia el encuentro soltando sus mejores tiros y esa férrea defensa que le caracteriza. Estuvo a punto de quebrar el tercer game, pero Hubert logró salir del aprieto apoyado en su saque y su drive cruzado. El ansiado break llegaría en el noveno game, en una extraña situación de cambio de roles, ya que es el veterano quien presiona con tiros paralelos y subidas a la red; posteriormente el escocés se mostró sólido con su servicio para cerrar el 6 – 4 parcial.

This match, corresponding to the APT Tour 500 of Vienna and held at the Wiener Stadthalle in the Austrian capital, has witnessed a show of determination and perseverance by Andy, who started the match with his best shots and the fierce defense that characterizes him. Segunda manga de paridad total, pero asombrosamente fue Murray quien estuvo más cerca de quebrar, aunque tuvieron que recurrir al desempate con el tie break, en el que Andy estuvo a un punto de quebrar y hacerse con el partido, sin embargo el polaco mostró su temple acertando 3 puntos consecutivos para igualar a set por lado. En la tercera vuelta estallaron las emociones, Huber quiebra e inicia con ventaja, pero el escocés de manera impresionante y con tiros ganadores de lujo, le devuelve de inmediato el favor del break a su oponente y a pesar del desgaste físico, se mantiene al acecho para lograr un nuevo quiebre en el sexto para colocarse arriba 5 – 2 (colosal).

El británico salvaría dos break point en el noveno, para luego cerrar a lo grande con un ace que se veía inmenso; finalmente Andy supera esta batalla y logra vencer a un Hurkacz que ha sido su verdugo en dos ocasiones, pero que a punta de constancia y no rendirse jamás, obtiene un triunfo que emociona a la fanaticada. Creo que mientras Murray siga ofreciendo esta clase de espectáculos, tiene garantizada la tarjeta de invitación de todas las competencias del calendario jajaja. Resulta placentero verle jugar (solo el hecho de verle competir es algo recreativo), máxime cuando consigue esos puntos tan bien luchados y el hecho de que lo haga, ante jugadores de la talla de un top ten, magnifica su legado.
