De vuelta al ruedo: Djokovic, Medvedev, Nadal y Alcaraz. // ¿Inicio profético? [Esp - Eng]

A pesar de un arranque algo atropellado, con los torneos de la United Cup (por equipos) y los ATP 250 de Pune y Adelaida I compartiendo fechas, el deporte blanco regresa a la palestra competitiva con el calendario 2023. Djokovic ensayó a placer sus tiros al contrapié y su drive frontal a velocidad cambiante; con eso le alcanzó para avanzar a octavos frente a otro francés. Quentin Halys (Nº64) será su rival y el torneo promete grandes batallas con la presencia de Félix Auger, Jannik Sinner, Roberto Bautista, Holger Rune y Daniil Medvedev; que por cierto es mi segunda raqueta a citar.

El ruso me demostró que estuvo entrenando mucho su tren inferior en estos días, ya que su velocidad y alcance salieron a relucir; mientras el italiano mostró su ya conocida garra en los momentos difíciles, aunque en mi opinión tomó las decisiones equivocadas, en los tiros decisivos. Lorenzo tuvo 3 sets points desde el resto y no logró concretar el punto necesario cuando Meddy estuvo 0-40 al saque. Y Daniil no solo se repuso y sostuvo, sino que también se recuperó de un conteo adverso en el tie break; Debo reconocer que los 80 minutos que duró el 1er set, fueron un espectáculo de tenis al más alto nivel. Lamentablemente, Sonego realizó un mal movimiento que le hizo abandonar por lesión.

Para nadie es un secreto que la bestia del tenis, no tuvo el mejor cierre de temporada en 2022; pero también es bien sabido su fenomenal inicio de 20 triunfos consecutivos, algo que en comparación con este mes de enero, me recordó aquello de la abundancia seguida de la escasez. Irónicamente, luego del mejor arranque en su carrera para el balear, ahora vive el peor inicio de temporada de su legendaria historia deportiva; y aunque me pareció muy acertada su participación con la selección española en la United Cup en Syndey, ya que le facilita la búsqueda de su mejor nivel de juego, en la modalidad de competencia por equipos, algo que le resta presión por la pérdida de puntos.

Sus verdugos fueron Cameron Norrie y Alex de Miñaur, aunque tampoco fueron puntajes tan escandalosos (a excepción del 1-6 del 2do set ante Alex). Y para ser sinceros, lo que marcó en mayor grado la diferencia fue la velocidad de piernas de Rafa. De hecho, el español fue quien inició ganando en ambos encuentros por 6-3; pero su resistencia y el buen nivel de sus rivales, le hicieron pagar su falta de preparación (ojo con eso).

Respecto al número 1 del mundo, Carlitos se ha limitado a los eventos de exhibición y lo considero una decisión inteligente por parte de su equipo. Luego de su lesión muscular, ha tenido tiempo para recuperarse físicamente y los partidos en modo relajado, son los que más le convienen. Tanto Alcaraz como Nadal, urgen de buenas sensaciones con sus raquetas y cuando consigan las primeras victorias, serán los atletas a tener en cuenta de siempre. Carlos confirmó su participación en el Kooyong Classics en tierras australianas, justo antes del primer "Grande" de la temporada.

Sin lugar a dudas, Djokovic es el hombre a vencer y hay que tenerle como favorito en cada presentación; la posibilidad de levantar su décima copa austral es alta y para Daniil, Rafael y Carlos será la oportunidad de competir al más alto nivel. Aunque cualquiera puede dar una eventual sorpresa, los aspirantes a la gloria deberán superar al doble finalista, al más ganador, al vigente campeón y al número 1 del mundo.

Undoubtedly, Djokovic is the man to beat and must be considered as the favorite in every presentation; the possibility of lifting his tenth austral cup is high and for Daniil, Rafael and Carlos it will be the opportunity to compete at the highest level. Although anyone can give an eventual surprise, the aspirants to glory will have to overcome the double finalist, the most winning player, the reigning champion and the number 1 in the world.
