Uno de los torneos que se disputa actualmente, es el Open de Estoril, correspondiente al ATP World Tour 250 en su gira sobre tierra batida; es el único evento profesional disputado en tierras portuguesas y en su sexta edición nos ha regalado interesantes duelos, por parte de sus participantes. El evento de hoy estuvo amenizado por el campeón defensor, el español Albert Ramos Viñolas, actual número 31 del ranking mundial y quien es un jugador zurdo de buen juego controlado y que está acostumbrado a batallar ante los mejores rivales que ha enfrentado.

One of the tournaments that is currently being disputed is the Estoril Open, corresponding to the ATP World Tour 250 in its clay court tour; it is the only professional event disputed in Portuguese lands and in its sixth edition it has given us interesting duels by its participants. Ramos de 34 años, viene de ganar en su debut al australiano Jordan Thompson, en un difícil partido que pudo superar en tres sets; y ahora asume el reto de enfrentar por primera vez al surcoreano Soon-Woo Kwon, un jugador de 24 años con destellos de espectacularidad, que ocupa la casilla número 71 del escalafón y que derrotó al francés Benoit Paire por 2 - 0. El encuentro se mostró parejo desde su inicio, con una especie de fase de estudio para ambos, pese a los intentos del nacido en Barcelona, con tiros de fondo cruzados, que fueron bien manejados por el surcoreano, que a su vez se mostró sin apuros y esperando cada pelota desde su posición. Con el transcurrir de los games Kwon empleó sus habilidades con la raqueta; corriendo muy bien la pista, manejando distancias hacia la red y el fondo (algo clave en esta superficie); ante los intentos del incisivo español. Pero, fue Soon quien amenazó seriamente el saque del catalán.

Así se defiende el campeón vigente, luciendo como todo un especialista en la arcilla. Cerró el encuentro Albert Ramos, con el sexto quiebre del partido en su cuenta; ayudado una vez más por los errores no forzados del joven Kwon y algunas muestras de molestias físicas. Marcador final 5 – 7, 6 – 1 y 6 – 2. Ahora el español avanza a cuartos de final contra su compatriota, el experimentado Fernando Verdasco. Albert sigue en Defensa del título, aunque ha tenido que llegar al tercer set en sus dos encuentros, algo que puede pasarle factura más adelante.
