Se han jugado las semifinales del primer torneo de maestros del año, en el histórico Indian Wells Tennis Garden, un escenario que se ha engalanado con la presencia de los cuatro mejores atletas de la semana y de lo que va de año (en el caso de Rafael Nadal). Así que a primera hora de la jornada, se enfrentaban dos estilos muy parecidos, en las raquetas del estadounidense Taylor Fritz y el ruso Andrey Rublev, que resultó en otro sorpresivo resultado en favor del anfitrión por 7 – 5 y 6 – 4; que dejó entrever una inusual reacción, por parte del moscovita.

Pero si Alcaraz tuvo dos quiebres, Nadal consigue tres, sobre todo ese del décimo game ha sido determinante. Un marcador 6 – 4 en 1 hora y 8 minutos, increíble para el zurdo de Mallorca. En la segunda manga y a pesar de los fuertes vientos, es Carlitos quien lidera la batalla de quiebres, primero al quinto, luego al séptimo y finalmente al noveno game, dejando la mesa servida para su servicio.
