Should transgender people participate in female or male competitions?

This is being talked about a lot in the last days and weeks as it has caught the attention of the sports world, as it seems that this has triggered a snowball to take action regarding transgender athletes.

The question I would like to start with is Should transgender people participate in female or male competitions?.

In my very humble opinion no, I think it is that simple to me. If an athlete was born male but has decided to change sex, even if and undergoes treatments to reduce testosterone levels in their bodies, they will always have a competitive advantage over other athletes who are biologically female.

But of course this will not be solved so easily, because there are many agencies and organizations that watch over the rights of these people and that will not let them be separated so easily from the sport, besides we all know of the double standards that reigns in these organizations.

The case of Lia Thomas

The case of the swimmer Lia Thomas is the one that has triggered the wave of opinions for and against transgender athletes, this after Thomas became the first transgender athlete to win the most important tournament at college level in the United States when she won the 500 yards freestyle.

In the wake of this victory Thomas has been embroiled in a series of criticisms and comments of all kinds about the participation of transgender athletes in the sport.

Transgender athletes are banned.

The controversy seems to have started and it doesn't look like it's going to end anytime soon.
For the International Swimming Federation has passed new regulations banning transgender athletes from participating in women's competitions.

The International Swimming Federation has also proposed the creation of an open competition in which I guess they will want to include transgender athletes.

Florida Governor Ron Desantis has passed legislation banning transgender women from participating in sports competitions at the high school and collegiate levels, in addition to declaring 500-yard runner-up Emma Weyant as the "legitimate winner".

One curious thing regarding the Lia Thomas case, is that Thomas placed 554th in the men's 200-yard freestyle, 65th in the 500-yard freestyle and 32nd in the 1,650-yard freestyle (1,500 meters).

Are these legitimate cases of transphobia or common sense?

Now more and more organizations have joined to analyze their statutes and in some cases prohibit the participation of transgender people in their competitions, so field field hockey, rugby, triathlon and cycling are developing new rules or updating the old ones.

Not only these organizations are analyzing their regulations, but FIFA has also begun to analyze the participation of transgender people in soccer.

In a much more lukewarm position, the International Olympic Committee said it would not take a final decision on the issue in the short term, as it is very difficult to encompass all cases in one rule. The previous IOC policy was that if a woman had received hormone therapy for twelve months, trans athletes were allowed to compete with women.

Something that really strikes me is that it is mostly men who decide to change their sex and enter female competitions, it is almost never the other way around but imagine if it were, How much of a disadvantage would someone who was born female and has decided to transition and compete against men biologically?

I think if you are born a male you stick to male sports and vice versa. This is a load of rubbish as give me some tablets reducing the hormones and I can compete against women, it would be highly unfair.

Of course this is the case, but all organizations and federations are trembling when talking about transgender people. If you were born a man you are a man no matter if you identify as a woman, a bear or the lion king.

I agree with @cryptoandcoffee. Picking a sports club to play for is one thing but picking a gender to 'represent' is another thing in its entirety. What's the point of doping bans then..

In the current world of no "extremes" why will you "disenfranchise" the transgender person? Just like it has become unfair(nay a hatespeech) to say a man is only meant to marry a woman.

We can't run away from the God factor, the Jesus factor. God made man male and female alone. Is the craving for sex-change real? Yeah it is and so also is the craving some have for illicit sex or theft. However, there is a solution.

Well, back to the matter. Now we see the medical procedure for sex-change doesn't fully change the person's sex. That's because,it is not the solution. There remaineth some strengths in the sex the person intends to change from that continues with the person.

In sports, we talk about fair play. It becomes unfair if ab initio an athlete has an unfair advantage over his colleagues because he/she still has strengths from his "former" gender. It is akin to an athlete using banned steroids to compete.

So it's obvious that there should be no room for these compromised sexes in male or female sports. It is also good for their emotional health to avoid these sports. The tirade of words that people say to them openly and via the media because people feel they are cheats, can make transgender athletes spend extra money on psychologists or even lead to suicide in the worst case scenario.
What is fair for these transgender folks is them, competing against each other.

That could be a possible solution for trans athletes so that they do not feel that they are being deprived of their rights to compete in sport. Create a new category where trans athletes are included and compete against each other.

Very thought provoking topic, I would tend to agree with you that unfair advantage should be avoided as was done in the swimming arena now.

Also agree with @cryptoandcoffee.

A man who change their sex to become a female doesn't also change their male bone structure and other things that makes them at a great physical advantage against those who are naturally born females. The same is true for a female who decided to become a man.
Why not make a category specifically for transgenders or compete in the category they are naturally born with?

I think the only way for a man to totally become a woman is to completely change their body and vice versa - this can be done if there is a way to transfer the thoughts (some call it soul) of a person to a body of the opposite sex.

Man, this is a very hot topic.
