Hakuno Sho the Giant who mastered sumo.
I remember the first time I watched a sumo wrestling match, I remember that I was quite surprised, because the headbutts given by guys of God knows how many kilos and at least 1.80 mtrs was incredible.
Although I have to tell the truth, their previous ceremonies can be a bit strange, it is also strange to see giant and fat guys fighting in diapers, but well, nothing surprises me from Japan.
A little bit more serious now.
Hakuno Sho has decided to retire from sumo is perhaps the best of all time, I correct me is the best of all time, is the Roger Federer of sumo or Paolo Maldini of soccer.
Hakuno Sho has decided to retire from sumo at the age of 36 after almost a lifetime dedicated to this sport that is not very well known or practiced in the world.
A little review about Sumo
As you may have already noticed or perhaps know, sumo is a sport of Japanese origin, it is also the national sport of Japan; in fact the history of sumo is interesting.
Ancient Japanese legends tell of sumo matches that took place some 2500 years ago, such accounts are said to be in the Kojiki, which is a book where this is told, or sort of Japanese mythology in simple words.
This combat confronted two gods for the possession of the Japanese island, in addition to the honor and supremacy, in that combat they fought Takemikazuchi and Takeminakata.
Takemikazuchi took the victory in that occasion what was originated that it yielded part of the lands to the men so that they are governed by these. This little story is used when talking about the Japanese imperial house.
However, it is difficult to say with certainty when sumo originated in Japan if it is not for these legends and paintings dating back to ancient times.
In the Nihon Shoki (Chronicles of Japan) a sumo match is recorded, mentioning the first sumo match between mortal people and non-gods, when by special request of the emperor, Nomi no Sukune, a local potter wrestled against Taima no Kehaya who was supposed to be a vandal at the time.
The supposed result of that fight was that Taima no Kehaya was fatally wounded by Nomi no Sukune who won that fight and has since been recognized as the father of sumo. This supposedly took place in the year 23 BC.
Many years later is that the first sumo bouts are recorded, which were mostly practiced in imperial ceremonies, so sumo was gaining more respect, as it had become simple agricultural ceremonies asking for good crops to ceremonial ritual for the emperors asking for peace and prosperity of the Japanese nation.
It is said that by the Heian period (794-1185) sumo already had clearer and more defined rules, in addition to being considered as a martial art as well as being practiced by the higher classes of warriors.
In short, sumo was promoted by the emperors and feudal lords who were authentic patrons of the sumos who by this time had the rank of samurai.
Nowadays, the Japanese Sumo Association is in charge of maintaining and preserving the customs and traditions of sumo.

The highest and most prestigious grade is the Yokozuna, in fact there was a wrestler of the WWE or WWF I do not remember very well the truth.
Here it is due to speak at least a little of the Yokozuna because as I said it is the most important degree! image.png within this martial art so little known, besides that in history there have only been 72 yokozuna, and currently after the retirement of Hakuno, only one is active.
This is given by the rigidity that is given at the time to provide the highest degree of this sport because the Japanese are usually very strict and jealous about who is awarded the title.
In fact Japan currently has no sumos who have the degree of yokozuna.
Hakuno Sho's Domain
Hakuno Sho was born in Mongolia, and moved to Japan at the age of 15 to dedicate herself to sumo full time. Since then she has mastered this martial art, monopolizing it completely.
With almost 21 years of career and having mastered the sport completely, at the age of 36 Sho has decided to retire, due to chronic knee problems.
Life as a sport is curious, as Hakuno comes from a family dedicated to sumo, as her father won a silver medal at the Olympic Games in Mexico 1968. Sho travels to Japan at a young age, and here comes the curious thing, nobody wanted to accept him because he did not have much weight, it was not seen that the 15 year old boy could give the stature in this sport.
When we talk about absolute domination we must talk about this guy, because he dominated the highest rank in his sport, he got 45 championships of the highest category, he crushed all the opponents he faced. And it would not be easy to take down a giant of 1.93 meters and more than 150 kilos, who would be brave enough to stand in front of this guy? Not me.
Sho had started to decrease his tournament appearances, due to the same knee problem, yet he won a tournament this year undefeated, undefeated and in perfect pace. Covid's pandemic also prevented him from participating in another tournament that he most likely would have won as well.
To come to another country to practice his national sport, to achieve the highest rank in the sport which is not very easy especially in Japan where they are so traditionalist, to be the best at it, to be better than the Japanese themselves who invented the sport, gives you an idea of what Sho could have gone through in his career.
He is perhaps the best sumo in history, although whenever you talk about things like this, people have their tastes and preferences, at least he is the sumo with more titles on his shoulders, 13 more than Taiho (1940-2013), who was said to be the best sumo until Sho surpassed his mark.
He holds other records such as the most career wins with 1187, the most wins in the top category with 1093 and the most wins in a year with 86.
The greatest sumo wrestler in history, Hakuno Sho, has retired and has mastered the sport like no one else.

Yo no.
A very interesting read as we don't get to see much of Sumo wrestling. Knees would be a problem carrying all that weight and why bigger, heavier sportsmen retire earlier than others. 1m93 and weighing 150kg sounds like some of the guys I used to pay against as they were also fairly large in comparison to myself. I can recall at my peak I was 1m95 and weighed just on 120kg's and couldn't get any bigger no matter how I tried as I wouldn't use steroids.
Wow so you're a pretty tall guy.
If Sho basically retires because of the problem in his knees, and I assume also the mental fatigue of having won it all.
You just reminded me to watch this amazing sport. I used to watch it in the 1990s and I cannot recall how I stopped watching it. Greetings from the Philippines!
Wow I didn't know you watched Sumo, it is certainly a great sport.
Best regards
That was thoroughly enjoyable! Do you know of that European dude that was sumo? I can't remember his name...
I must admit, it's a sport I knew very little about, but I know much more after reading that @kraken99
Thanks for taking the time to educate us. One thing is for sure i wouldn't like to take a slap or a headbut from one of these or that would be the end of me!
