Athletes are not super humans ENG-ESP

Sometimes we tend to see athletes as true super humans and although some of them really look like that because they have a physique that seems to be sculpted by the Greek gods, the reactions they have to the problems, often remind us that they are still human like us.

People like us who suffer and cry, who rejoice and cheer for the achievements they have in their training camps. I remember about two months ago I went to a bar to watch a soccer game and I remember a guy next to me screaming hysterically because a player had missed a penalty kick, it got me at first, but then it left me thinking about how silly we can be to yell nonsense to maybe players who could be our sons or brothers.

By that I mean the pressure that players are exposed to all the time.
When I read stories of what happens around professional or semi-professional sports, I think I am shocked as everyone else is, as it is not easy to read stories about the suicide of some players and athletes who are at the height of success in their careers. What may be most surprising about this is that there have been many cases of suicide of young athletes in recent weeks.

Lauren Bernett, 20, had been a softball player until April 25, when she committed suicide. On April 13, it was University of Wisconsin track and field athlete Sarah Schulze, 21. On March 1, it was Stanford soccer captain Katie Meyer, 22. Last week, Southern University cheerleader Arlana Miller, 19, left a note on her Instagram account and then committed suicide.

These are just a few of the athletes who have committed suicide in recent days, which has set off alarm bells of what is going on in general in sports and why these girl have decided to end their lives having a bright future ahead of them.

What makes an athlete who is at the top of the sport?

I think this is a difficult question to answer and one that most people tend to ask themselves or wonder, why? Why does a girl like Katie Meyer who's performance, saving two penalty kicks, gave Stanford the championship, decide to end her life. Or why a girl like Sarah Schulze, who had excellent academic grades and decided to commit suicide.

It touches me to think that these are very young girls who are athletes, even leaders of their teams, who are making this decision. For me and I'm sure for many it's hard to take in that athletes are making these decisions. Is this a pattern that has just started and will we continue to see in the coming weeks, months or years? What is affecting the athletes? Will this continue to grow? Well I hope not.

Perhaps there are unique situations that athletes go through such as injuries that can cut off or slow down their athletic development that perhaps one fails to understand. But is this a factor in the recent or for the suicide of athletes?

I think what this could do is significantly increase the levels of stress and depression among athletes, and only someone who has seen what depression can do to your life or the life of a loved one will understand how fucked up it can be.

Athletes are no different from you

We tend to see athletes as unattainable demigods as I have said before, but in reality they are not much different from you. As they say the phrase from a movie they too feel emotions, they too bleed, they too cry, they too are human.

Maybe it is the same society or environment that makes us see athletes as better than us, or as more capable or as the tough guys. It is this culture that makes perhaps many of them repress all these feelings. It is difficult for us to see a martial arts fighter being soft or vulnerable or showing his feelings. For showing yourself to be vulnerable is synonymous with weakness, such seems to be the collective thought.

I believe that all of us who love sports do not want to see this in our favorite sport, much less in our favorite team. In sports we share collective values that make us bigger and better, feeling part of a team or group is one of the most beautiful feelings in the sports world.

However, mental health is not something that should be taken lightly, mental health is a topic that I have already talked about in previous posts and I will continue to talk about it as many times as necessary.

Mental health is also something that should be talked about in sports, especially when it is due to lack of mental health and proper treatment that valuable lives are being lost beyond the sport.

Whoever is directly controlling the V2K told me to kill myself.
They told me if I killed myself now it would save the lives of countless others.
Saying the longer I wait to kill myself the more people will suffer.

They are reckless and should have shown the proper media what they had before taking me hostage for 5 years. I know there are many in prison that dont deserve to be there because of this. Your stay in prison will not be fun @battleaxe and friends. People are going to want you dead when they find out what you did. I hope you die a slow painful death. You sick mother fuckers.

Its a terrorist act on American soil while some say its not real or Im a mental case. Many know its real. This is an ignored detrimental to humanity domestic and foreign threat. Ask informed soldiers in the American military what their oath is and tell them about the day you asked me why. Nobody has I guess. Maybe someone told ill informed soldiers they cant protect America from military leaders in control with ill intent. How do we protect locked up soldiers from telling the truth?

I totally agree, I must admit that it is easy to idealize them and think that sometimes they are perfect beings, however life itself is in charge of showing us that they are also people just like us, many times we are very hard on our sports idols and we do not understand that just like us they also have good and bad moments, I think that the new generations grow up seeing these sports references as a role model and this puts a lot of pressure on them that perhaps they are not willing to handle, I think that everyone in general should learn a little more about how to express ourselves about the athletes and we should be less unforgiving when any athlete is wrong because just like us they are human beings and there is nothing more human than to err.

Totally agree and also remember that they have their own problems and many times they also make mistakes in their decisions and end up making the worst of them. Greetings and hugs

Injuries can frustrate a player into depression when the process is taking longer than expected and their age is counting too, for the case of long term injuries. There is always uncertainties about if they can get back to their form before injury struck. They are humans after all...they are expected to feel...

Yes we may agree that they commit this ungodly act as a result of mental health. But another question is what are the causes of these mental health? and what are the solutions? Do this people just develop mental health for nought? I think there are more to these. We never can tell what this people, not only athletes but also this our celebrities go through behind camera. I think while we cheer and celebrate them, we should also include them in our prayers.
My humble suggestion.

I don't have answers for your questions but they are valid and you are so right that not only athletes have mental health issues, but even celebrities we follow and ourselves.
