Nigeria in World Cup Qualifiers

Have you been following the World Cup Qualifiers?

The road to the FIFA World Cup 2026 started last year (2024) across the entire world. While some nations have been having maximum fun, others have been left in tears.

Now, I am going to focus more on the Confederation of African Football (CAF), where my nation, Nigeria, belongs. Each of the footballing nations has been grouped into nine groups, and the team that finishes at the top of each group automatically qualifies for the World Cup. Yes, it is as simple as that.

Group C consists of Nigeria, South Africa, Rwanda, Lesotho, and Zimbabwe. When we Nigerians saw this group, we jubilated because we were very sure of topping the group with ease, considering how studded our team is with classic and wave-making European players. The only country we saw as a potential challenge was South Africa, but that did not seem like a major concern because we had recently faced them in AFCON 2023 and defeated them. But has that been the case??? Not at all!

The table above shows the current standings of Group C after Matchday 6. South Africa is leading the group with 13 solid points, while Nigeria sits in fourth place with just 7 points. Do you see that? We are not even in second place. Not even third, but fourth! And the teams we underrated have outsmarted us.

Since Matchdays 5 and 6 began, we Nigerians have been busy calculating with plenty of permutations. God will help us!!!! Lol 😂

Yesterday was Matchday 6, and it was a shocker for us because we could have revived our hopes of catching up with South Africa. But the match between Nigeria and Zimbabwe ended in a 1-1 draw, meaning each team took just one point. The worst part? We were winning, and with just one minute to go, our defenders went to sleep, allowing the Zimbabweans to find their way through and score an equalizer.

Is all hope lost?

No oooh!

All hope is not lost, but our chances of making it to the World Cup are as slim as 0.1%. Well, a miracle can happen—don't you think?

Let me laugh first. Hahahahah! 😂

Someone asked, Is it only Nigerians that always believe in miracles? Lol!

Thanks for reading.
