My Actifit Report Card: March 28 2025 - Roots of Goth?
I saw a post today from @harbiter who talks about covering a Sisters Of Mercy song which will be out soon. It got me thinking of that style of music which some may call Goth. I thought of 3 songs from the 60s that might be Goth adjacent and I wonder if bands like bau haus and Type O Negative and The Cure and Siouxsie and The Banshees knew these tunes.
Black Mass
This is a weird song from about 1968 from Jason Crest from the UK. It features a backwards guitar and/or drum track, strange effects, screams and echoes and chants. If you never heard it, give it a try if you're in the right mood and open minded.
Dark White
This one is by Sean Bonniwell and the music Machine known for their hit Talk Talk, a proto punker. This 68 or 69 tune one starts slow and builds a bit. I hear Peter Steele in here a bit (Type O Negative singer).
Black Sabbath
There was a band that had a song called Black Sabbath, before Black Sabbath! They even had a member named Oz Osborne! They had an album called Witchcraft Destroys Minds & Reaps Souls in 1969 and this song was on it. The singer is female, Jinx Dawson. I think she is still around, out there rocking. If you want more, the entire album is on YouTube. But I'm warning you, Do Not listen to the final track!
My Activity
for today was not that much. I got to rest a bit after a busy week. But I did do that daily nightly walk I am known for. I went a little further than the last few days and finally broke 7K.
Well it is Friday night here. We made it to the weekend. I wish you all a wonderful one!

Black sabbath is more than famous!
Night walk after dinner is a good habit for better health and your score of 7k is not bad. Happy weekend
Pretty interesting tunes here!
That Black Mass is really strange and it makes me think of a song from The Who, Boris the spider, talking about 60s bands making strange dark music 😂
Probably what it can be labeled as goth here is Black Sabbath. I'm sure that a band called Coven based its whole sound in this "satanic" and "witchy" vision of the music and that's what comes closer to the later goth scene intention, I think.
