UCL Night; Champions League is Back!

I think that whenever a discussion is up about the European Champions League, we football lovers have some sort of sentiment attached to it. It just doesn't matter if it's a game between Feyenoord & Celtic. As far as they are playing on a Champions League night, we know for a fact that it's going to be a good game to watch.

UCL is one heck of a competition and I'm glad that this competition that promises so much intensity is back and I'm enjoying every bit of the intensity. 8 games are already played in this first GameDay of UCL and there are lots of hot takes from those games.

Let's look into a few of them;

1. Are Newcastle ready for Champions League football?

It's probably too late to be asking this because Newcastle are already in the competition and their first game which was played tonight against AC Milan didn't generate any inspiring talking point. They played poorly and the only positive that can be taken away from that game is that they finished the game without conceding any goal.

2. If you snooze against Man City, you will lose.

As a big fan of EPL, one of the things I know for a fact is that it's never over against Manchester City until you hear the final whistle. FK Crvena Zvezda should have known better after they got the better of Man City in the first half of their game tonight.

Pep was so pissed about his squad's performance, he couldn't wait for the first half to come to an end before making a substitution. Fair play to him though... Bernardo was having a poor game, but things got nasty immediately after the substitution. However, immediately the second half kicked off, Man City took charge of the game and their firepower was too much for FK Crvena Zvezda.

3. Barcelona feasted on Royal Antwerp.

Barcelona against the Royal Antwerp is a fixture that the outcome is almost written in stone. The opponents started well and tried to go toe to toe with Barcelona, but the difference in class is glaring. Just to put things into context, here are the events that played out during the game;

The opening day of the UCL was fairly interesting but what we will be getting on Wednesday will be a different sort of thriller. Get ready for the mouth-watering fixtures that are on the way between the top clubs in Europe. I'm already pumped and ready for them.
