Slot's Liverpool Adventure started this season with a BANG.
Liverpool's opening fixture for the season was an interesting one. It's our first competitive fixture under Arne Slot, the man that was appointed as Jurgen Klopp's replacement. The vibe around a new manager is always interesting to witness, especially when the previous manager is someone as reputable as Klopp.
Slot has something about him though. He looks confident in his game plan and he commands respect while on the touchline. To be fair, none of that would matter if he fails to win games. So, today's game was a good opportunity for him to show the fans and the footballing world that he's ready to excel in his new role.
Ipswich is obviously the underdogs in this game. Yet, the premier league is full of unpredictable outcomes. They had points to prove in this game and I believe they gave Liverpool an interesting challenge in the first half of the game.
The first half of this game was a scrappy one for Liverpool. Liverpool played the first half of the game as if they didn't have a pre-season campaign. It was a slow first half with a lot of failed dribbling attempt from Salah and Diaz.
Ipswich did well to hold their ground in the first half. They got 3 yellow card bookings in that half and managed to neutralize a couple of attacking attempt from Liverpool. Ending that half of the game with a goalless draw is a good one for them.
The second half...
Second half of the game features all the juicy actions from Liverpool. The first goal of the game was scored at the 60th minute by Liverpool. The build-up to the goal came from a sumptuous pass which was delivered by Trent. Salah picked up the pass and delivered a ruthless assist to Jota.
Jota isn't one to bottle an opportunity like that... He scored immediately!
In Liverpool's usual fashion, they scored the second goal 5 minutes after the first one. This time around, the goal came from Salah and he doesn't mess around with an opportunity like that.
Slot's substitutions was interesting. He did 4 substitutions at a time when the game was already won. Bradley, Gakpo, Tsimikas, and Konate were substitute players.
First game of the season was a good one.
I look forward to what Slot's Liverpool era will bring to the table.
