10-Man Liverpool faces another EPL setback
It's another footballing weekend and all eyes are in the top clubs playing across the top leagues in Europe. My attention always goes to Liverpool and our game of this weekend is a home game against Fulham.
Liverpool's previous EPL game was supposed to be an Away game against Everton. However, the game got cancelled because of a heavy storm. Liverpool supposedly got a good rest from that. However, our mid-week fixture presented a Liverpool that looked fatigued.
It would be interesting to see how Liverpool will show up for today's game.
First Half;
At the beginning of the game, both sides were unsurprisingly energetic. They both pressed hard. However, Liverpool's defense couldn't effectively neutralize the attacking threat from Fulham. It took just 11 minutes for Fulham to get ahead.
The goal came as a defensive deflection from Robertson. He has been very poor and inconsistent this season. He has also caused a lot of defensive errors which put Liverpool in tough situations.
To be fair, blaming Robertson for the deflection that led to the goal may be too harsh. However, it took only 6 minutes after that for him to pick up a nasty red card.
Yeah!
Being a goal down and a man down within the first 20 minutes of an EPL game is never an easy thing to deal with. Liverpool found themselves in that position and that was the moment the game of tactics, intensity, and drama kicked off.
Liverpool's Manager adjusted Liverpool's formation to a back 3 with Gravenberch as a CB. I'm sure that the rest of the first half was a fun one to watch for a rival fan. For me, I was genuinely sitting at the edge of my seat with my heart skipping multiple beats.
Second Half;
Liverpool didn't look like they will be losing this game at any point in the second half. In fact, their hit map makes it look like they are playing against a 10-man squad.
Our equalizing goal came in the early minutes of the second half of the game. It was a goal that came from Cody Gakpo being ready to put everything on the line. He got on the end of a pass from Salah and scored with a waist-level bullet header.
Gravenberch found himself switching from CB to CM in the game and he performed absolutely well. He's an absolute legend. Quansah on the other hand whose first team position in Liverpool is as a CB came on and committed an error that led to goal.
Yeah! I'm not even kidding.
The fact that Liverpool gave away two goals in this game due to defensive error from Robertson and Quansah explains exactly what has led to a lot of Liverpool's struggles this season.
Liverpool managed to get an equalizer to make the scoreline 2 - 2, thanks to an assist from Nunez and a clinical finish from Jota.
While we performed amazingly, considering the situation we were dealing with, I have to say that Liverpool can't afford to lose more points at this point in the season.
Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop or Comma.
