Sunday Walk Through The Woods
A warm autumn Sunday was the only encouragement I needed to walk to my daughter's. Rather than take the bus.
Fairbank Wood
My first woodland pathways took me through Fairbank Wood. With a less than impressive entrance, it's probably missed by many. But it's a lovely, peaceful shortcut, avoiding urban footpaths.
The information board gives me reminders of long-forgotten facts about the area.
The carriageway that led through landscaped gardens is now ruled by nature. Though, it's still maintained enough to make this an easy walk.
Salts Mill
Leaving the wood, I was immediately attracted to the view of Salt's Mill, across the river. Later, Google was kind enough to offer me a stylized version of my photo. With better lighting than my quick snap.
Milner Wood
Strictly speaking, Milner Wood starts on the extreme left of this photo. Because the area behind the cottages was mostly grass and bracken 50 years ago. But that's where I'm heading. Towards the housing estate that is peaking through the trees along the skyline. So the extended Milner Wood makes the uphill walk more interesting.
On the right of the photo is The Cricketers Arms. Where I've spent many happy times over the years.
Unfortunately, I had no time to stop for a pint. But who needs beer...

A lovely report of your walk. You're right about the entrance to the woods being less than enticing but it's the feeling of peace when you go through the gate and into nature. Bliss!
