Wonderful Delay: Parade and Patience
"Why hurry over beautiful things?
Why not linger and enjoy them?"
_Clara Schumann
I have been hurrying this morning since I had to go to the capital of Benguet, Northern Luzon, Philippines but I was informed there will be a parade along the way because of the Benguet Provincial Athletic Meet.
Getting there, we would be passing by the Strawberry Farms in La Trinidad, Benguet.
We were told that there will be a parade of the athletes representing the thirteen (13) different municipalities of Benguet.
I am coming from a town in La Union which is a province next to Benguet and the parade starts at 7:30 a.m. so we had to have passed the area before the parade starts.
I even did not make us morning sandwiches so we could leave early.
We left La Union at around 6 a.m. to avoid traffic along Marcos Highway/Ben Palispis Highway.
Taken along Marcos Highway, Tuba, Benguet
Unfortunately, we caught traffic in some parts of Baguio and just as I thought we would have made it in time, the parade started 3 minutes earlier.
We were there lined up while waiting for the parade to finish.
I admit, at first, I was so disappointed.
Imagine waking up early and travelling early to be able to catch up and then suddenly you end up stuck.
So, instead of whining and complaining, I brought out my phone and took pictures of the athletes.
Some of them were so happy and friendly that they would wave and smile at the camera.
Here's some of them:
These are the student-athletes of Benguet State University. They are a separate team from the La Trinidad team though they are located in La Trinidad.
These students are from Tuba, Benguet. They sure are a happy and energetic team. Way to go Tuba!
Look at these kids waiting for their favorite athletes. I'm referring to the kids wearing blue shirts. They were there when we got there and they must be waiting for their bets.
These kids have mastered dancing the "Tayaw", a Benguet traditional dance.
The parade ends in Benguet Sports Complex.

After the parade, the police officers in the area let us pass along Strawberry Farm and we got to enjoy the view.
Lastly, though I arrived 10 minutes later, I got to enjoy cheering for the athletes. Hoping that my simple cheers of "Go (insert municipality)!" have inspired them. And of course, I enjoyed the view.
📌Hi. I'm Cate and this is my story, a day in my life. I believe patience defines a person and thus we must have patience at all times. Hope you enjoyed this short post!
Let's enjoy some strawberries!🍓🍓🍓
started 3 mins earlier? i’m impressed! not delayed or anything! way to go philippines 🥳
the athletes look like they’re ready for battle! can’t help too but cheer for them, even when you’re stuck in traffic, it’s okay 😅
I know right?! I was actually so happy I thought we made it in time but 10 mins late was ok.
I see how the kids in blue shirts were eager to see their favorite teams and athletes. It must be a very happy day!
Yes indeed. At first, I noticed they were anxious. They really waited for their team to arrive.
What a beautiful experience to have shared with us. I believe praising and hailing athletes the way you did was a nice way to encourage them and they were inspired. I also believe you had a wonderful time there too.
#dreemerforlife I popped in from #dreemport
I hope my simple cheers really inspired them. The athletic meet already concluded and I think the students had a great time.
Make the best of whatever comes your way. You turned an opposition into an opportunity.
I'm always trying to find the good in the bad. Less stress. 😊
Patience indeed does define a person. And I really need to work on my patience and my families patience. You did such a wonderful pivot from being irritated to enjoying the parade instead. I wish I had the skill too. Need to work on it.
Thank you for teaching us of the advantages of being patient and for a snapshot into the life of these student athletes on their big day.
Cheers from a fellow #dreemerforlife
Oh my. If only you knew. I could really lose my patience too over my kid. But I'm trying really really hard to calm myself and try not to be easily overtaken with my emotions.
You sure had a great time. I love all the pictures shared and everything you wrote.
This was an interesting read. Thank you for sharing.

Oh, that's so sweet. Thank you so much.
It is amazing you didn't let the delay dampen your mood but saw it as an opportunity to write this post.
This is super nice.
Hello dearest fashionable dreemer. Happy Friday! I hope you had an amazing day today because you are special. A lovely soul blessed to be in our world. I waltzed in from #dreemport, for I am an amazing #dreemer. An awesomely made #dreemerforlife.
Yes. Instead of stressing myself, I just enjoyed myself cheering for the athletes passing by.
