Plogging for Independence | My Actifit Report Card: June 12 2024

Hello my fellow actifitters!
Today is the Philippine Independence day and it is declared a national day. This means no work which translates to waking up late and relaxing. Well, supposed to be. Because today, I joined a plogging activity in one of the barangays in the Municipality of La Trinidad, Benguet.

What is Plogging?

Plogging is a short term for Picking Litter while Jogging.

The plogging starts from the barangay hall up to the river down hill.
We assembled from 6 in the morning to 6:45 and started before 7.

There's not really much of garbage to pick since there is a weekly clean-up drive.

This dog is so friendly. He welcomed us in the barangay hall and joined us in the plogging.

There are signages along the way to remind everyone to not dump their garbage anywhere. The road is a provincial road and there are passersby to the next barangays belonging to another municipality. It is really hard for the officials to control and discipline those who just dump their garbage anywhere. What's frustrating sometimes is that there are garbage bags along the way where people can throw their garbage when passing by. However, they just don't throw their garbage properly. They throw it in the roadside.

I saw this by the roadside. Someone must have been playing while resting beside the road.

I don't know what plant this is but one of the ploggers mentioned that locals believe this is a snake's plant. Maybe because it resembles the head of a snake.

Along the way, one can notice ferns growing on the roadside.

A few more steps and we are near our destination.

The river below is our destination and the end of our plogging activity.

I can say that I celebrated Independence day in a simple way in a nationalistic way, cleaning the environment.
