The winter olympics bring back volleybal memories

avatar

The past couple of weeks have been all about the winter olympics with all sports in them. In other editions I would be watching all of these things, especially the snow sports. But this year I hardly watched anything for no good reason. I guess your taste changes over the years, or you just don't feel like it anymore.

The 'Ladies of Hive community question' totally adds on this one.

This was one of the topics from this week, and this is exactly how things are and have changed.

"Are your hobbies different now than when you were a child or teenager?

Have you kept one or more hobbies all through your life?

Tell us about them! Why do they satisfy you?"

For as long as I could remember I used to play volleybal. Would you think about Karin, you would think about someone who is building her time around playing her sports. Training, doing extra training with other teams, and giving training to other teams...all the elements were there.

We had nice teams with awesome inspiring trainers. It never felt like a chore, it was always fun. Doing a team sport in general is just super fun. You share so many moments with your teamies it almost feels like family.

If there would be an illness in someones family, or if someones relationship had ended, we were all there for that person as a team. Vacations would be build around the weekend when we didn't have competition. It was more than just playing a sport or working a hobby, there was a way of lifestyle in there.

In the summers we played beach volleybal, playing competition at the sea which isn't really next to here but always a 200 km drive. Those weekend were even more fun with playing outdoors in the sun, camping with groups of people and just playing beahc volleybal in general.

The game is very much different for those who don't know. With just two players in the field the whole tactics make it a different game, and also the techniques which are used to play are different.

And heck yeah, beach volleybal gets you in an awesome shape while running through the sand all day hahaha.

So am I playing this game now still? The answer is no

At a certain point I just decided it was my last season (also because I moved away) and the weird thing is I never looked back. Even though I had so damn much fun in all of these years of playing, I don't miss it for one second.

Not entirely true, if I would say there is one thing that I miss it is having this determination for something. To know you will dig up this ball all the way in nomansland, and eventually you do. The mindset was good with this sport, and that is something I miss not putting it into something anymore.

But spending all of those hours in gyms all across the country. That is just something of the past. But yes, in my heart I will always continue to be a volleybalplayer.

Do you want to be in the competition as well? To make sure that your entry is valid, and can not be missed for the contest, please make sure that you follow the RULES:

Totally agree!
I'm still playing beach volleyball. Years where I was playing almost every day are far gone but I still need my time on the sand. I love being outside, trying to chase that ball and why not enjoing a good refreshing bath in the lake (in my case).

Hahaha maybe that is the best part about playing beach volleybal. The feeling of being a kid again in the sand fooling around. Maybe that is why we all like it so much haha.

So still playing? Nice one. I dont find that when I am on the beach and I find a ball somewhere I get some itch again of wanting to start to play hehe.

😅Definetly, with many probabilities!
One thing for shure is that it helps forgetting all the troubles for a while....

Yes amateur level, doing some tournaments once in a while (and loosing most of it lol). You never know... Summer is at the door so!!

I played volleyball once and probably because I watched the Anime "Haikyuu" before that, I felt like i was in an action movie. I wouldn't say I have any sports I'm involved in except my regular visit to the gym. I wish that would change. I just haven't found that sport that excites me. 🤧

Same thing here. After I quit playing volleybal after all those years I never found something again which made me so enthusiasti anymore. But the commitment is just too big for being totally involved again.

What is that movie? :DD

It's an Anime really. Haikyuu is the title. Just Four seasons of I think 12 or 15 episodes each... It's amazing really

I loved volleyball myself, though as I got older, it is much easier to play water volleyball in the pool. That beach 2 man volleyball is brutal!

Water volleybal in the pool! heheh, this sounds like a beer should be involved with that. We dont really have a climate for pools here so would agree with you that this is a vacay sport to do hehe.

Yeah that 2 man in the sand version is really brutal indeed, but for the body looks...that is just perfect hahaha

Oe swimming! Also love to do that but more in the open water and not really indoors (which is mostly the case here in cold Holland)

Wow that must have been amazing, congratulations. I played it very little in school, I was afraid of the ball.

I think we all change at some point, and if we don't change the hobby, we change the way we live it.

Agree with this totally, we evolve and also what we do and when we do changes with that totally

I wasn't much into sports myself with the only team sport being Soccer/football other wise a few solitary activities like biking and jogging. My interest in Martial arts came much later.

Thanks for sharing @karinxxl ⛹️

The only time I played volley ball was when I was serving my country in NYSC. I have never been a ball person, whatever type, volley, basket or soccer.
All the best to us all in the contest.

it is a nice team play to do, with sweet tactics in there. But yeah..you have to be a ball kind of person haha.

Are you doing any other sport now?
