Today, we have the privilege of talking with Antônio Wesley, better known in the skateboarding world as Uga, the fastest skater at the legendary Praça XV. With his quick and precise tricks, Uga has become a prominent figure in the local scene, earning respect and admiration from both beginners and veterans.
Originally from Piauí, he arrived in Rio de Janeiro a few years ago and quickly stood out with his fearless and bold style on the skateparks. Now, at 23 years old and with 12 years of experience on a skateboard, Uga shares what this long journey means to him.
When asked about what he values most in the life of a skateboarder, Uga is emphatic: "The unity among people of different styles, cultures, religions, and tastes is what makes skateboarding such a special sport. In skateboarding, it doesn't matter where you come from or what your beliefs are; everyone is together for the same love of the four wheels. Each person brings their own identity to the session, whether it’s through the way they dress, the music they like, or the style of tricks they prefer. This diversity is what enriches the scene, and at the end of the day, what matters most is the connection formed at the skatepark. There are no barriers when it comes to sharing the space, respect, and the positive vibe that skateboarding provides."
For Uga, skateboarding is not just a sport; it’s a lifestyle that breaks down barriers and brings together people who might never meet in other contexts. He values the friendships he has made over the years and the mutual support that exists among skaters, whether it's to learn a new trick or simply share a relaxed moment at the park.
"Skateboarding taught me resilience, how to fall and get back up, but it also taught me about respect and companionship. When we’re at the park, all you want is to see your friend land that tough trick. Everyone celebrates together, and that creates a unique energy.
