It has been bad for a while and they just don't even try to fix it.

MLB has been testing "robo umps" that call balls and strikes so when they eventually transition to that, the game of baseball will be almost impossible for the umps to ruin the outcome of a game.

The NFL is the opposite and relies on so many judgement calls where some things get called and some things don't and those calls can have a huge impact on who wins and loses. They should take all the refs except one off the field and have a room full of them watching every play from multiple angles to call flags. The cameras can see what's happening better than they can.
