Oort Cloud is a hypothesized part of space
I heard of it a few times but never looked into it so thanks for the information about it. It's too bad that nobody would like to harvest the materials there but I wonder if there are any unique materials found only there.

There might be a few as-yet undiscovered minerals but those might also someday be discovered in the Kuiper belt or asteroid belt. Going to the Oort Cloud is a vast distance to travel for similar material that could just as easily be mined from closer rocks. Thinking about it though I guess one advantage not brought up is direction of travel. Getting to the Kuiper or asteroid belts using the shortest path is restricted to traveling roughly along the ecliptic plane. The Oort Cloud is supposed to be spherically distributed around the Sun so a spacecraft should be able to travel in any direction and eventually get to the Oort Cloud. The spaceship would just miss out on the gravity assist from swinging around planets.
