Today we will talk about Yuri!!! on Ice, as a fan of sports anime, I watched this anime as soon as it came out, but I didn't have many expectations, you know? But I just couldn't ignore all the reviews and good critics that this series was having, so I decided to give it a chance... and the truth is, as the episodes went by, it made its way to my heart, and I ended up liking it a lot.

It presents us with an interesting story by the hand of MAPPA Studio, with animation that is impressive in certain parts... I feel that the ice skating sequences are very fluid and dynamic. You can feel all the speed, grace and power of each jump and spin, it's like watching a figure skating competition in real life, I admire the way they were able to represent this, but I feel that what really distinguishes this anime is its central story and of course its characters...

This series introduces us to the life of Yuri Katsuki, a talented but somewhat insecure figure skater who has lost his will to compete after a crushing defeat in the final of a certain tournament... This causes Yuri to return to Japan, unsure of his future in the sport, and that's when he meets Viktor, who is a 5-time world champion skater and Yuri's idol. He shows up unexpectedly at her doorstep and offers to be her coach... if this sounds like a typical story to you, believe me it's not, I feel that the way we are told the story of this skater can resonate in an emotional way with many viewers. Especially because it deals with those important themes such as the pursuit of passion, overcoming fears and the power of human connection. This series is about struggles and triumphs, defeats and victories, joys and sorrows, all in the pursuit and fulfillment of a dream....

Hola a todos queridos amigos otakus, espero que se encuentren genial en el día de hoy.. aquí estoy de vuelta con otra reseña de anime. Y bueno, esta vez nos pondremos los patines y nos lanzaremos a la pista de hielo.. así es, hoy les hablaré de un anime que fue muy conocido en su momento y que seguro muchos de ustedes habrán oído de el o tal vez habrán visto.. Hoy hablaremos de Yuri!!! on Ice, como fanático de los animes de deportes, este anime lo vi apenas salió, pero no tenía muchas expectativas, ¿saben? Pero simplemente no podía ignorar todas las reseñas y las buenas críticas que estaba teniendo esta serie, así que decidí darle una oportunidad.. y la verdad, conforme pasaron los episodios, fue abriendo paso hasta llegar a mi corazón, y acabó gustándome bastante.

Nos presenta una historia interesante de la mano del Estudio MAPPA, con una animación que es impresionante en ciertas partes.. siento que las secuencias de patinaje sobre hielo son muy fluidas y dinámicas. Se puede sentir toda la velocidad, la gracia y la potencia de cada salto y giro, es como ver una competición de patinaje artístico en la vida real, admiro la manera en la que pudieron representar esto, pero siento que lo que realmente distingue a este anime es su historia central y por supuesto sus personajes..

Esta serie nos presenta la vida de Yuri Katsuki, un patinador artístico con talento, pero algo inseguro, que ha perdido sus ganas de competir tras una aplastante derrota en la final de cierto torneo.. Esto hace que Yuri regrese a Japón, inseguro de su futuro en este deporte, y es ahí cuando conoce a Viktor, quien es un patinador 5 veces campeón del mundo y el ídolo de Yuri. Él aparece inesperadamente en la puerta de su casa y se ofrece a ser su entrenador.. si esto te parece una historia típica, créeme que no es así, siento que la forma en la que nos cuentan la historia de este patinador puede resonar de una manera emocional con muchos espectadores. Sobre todo porque trata esos temas importantes como la búsqueda de la pasión, la superación de los miedos y el poder de la conexión humana. Esta serie trata de las luchas y de los triunfos, de las derrotas y de las victorias, las alegrías y las tristezas, todo para lograr perseguir y cumplir un sueño..

Yuri's journey is something that surely many can relate to, I did, and I'm sure many of you have gone through the same thing... it's typical to end up doubting ourselves, we feel lost, we struggle to find our place in the world, and somehow we always see how other people seem to succeed, and that makes our achievements or our journeys feel less important or far from reality, only causing more insecurity... Yuri feels this too, but through his relationship with Viktor, he is learning to believe in himself again.... Viktor sees something special in him, a spark that Yuri himself doesn't recognize. The dynamic between these two is the heart and soul of the anime, it's a complex relationship that transcends the typical simplistic labels... yes, there are some romantic undertones between them, and the anime isn't afraid to show this growing mutual effect, but the relationship goes far beyond a simple romance. . it's about mutual respect and unconditional support, Viktor really wants to help Yuri find his voice, his confidence, and most of all, his own style, and each time, Yuri is always inspiring Viktor more and more to rediscover his passion for figure skating...

Clearly, in this story, let's not forget about the supporting characters... this is where one of my favorite characters comes in, and that is the fierce Russian Yuri, so to speak, haha. A very charming and charismatic skater, who creates a rivalry with the main character that is both funny and mature at the same time, but not just him, every character, every skater that comes along, I feel brings something unique and memorable.... The anime does a fantastic job in developing these characters, giving them some real depth and motivations, especially in the competitions, which really gets you involved in their personal journeys and their path to success in the sport....

El viaje de Yuri es algo con lo que seguramente muchos podrán identificarse, yo lo hice, y estoy seguro que muchos de ustedes habrán pasado por lo mismo.. es típico acabar dudando de nosotros mismos, nos sentimos perdidos, luchamos por encontrar nuestro lugar en el mundo, y de alguna manera siempre vemos como otras personas parecen triunfar, y eso hace que nuestros logros o nuestros recorridos se sientan menos importantes o muy alejados de la realidad, solo causando más inseguridad.. Yuri también siente esto, pero a través de su relación con Viktor, él va aprendiendo a creer de nuevo en sí mismo... Viktor ve algo especial en él, una chispa que ni el propio Yuri reconoce. La dinámica entre estos dos es el alma del anime, es una relación compleja que trasciende las típicas etiquetas simplonas.. sí, hay cierto trasfondo romántico entre ellos, y el anime no tiene miedo de mostrar este creciente efecto mutuo, pero la relación va mucho más allá de un simple romance.. se trata de respeto mutuo y apoyo incondicional, Viktor de verdad quiere ayudar a Yuri a encontrar su voz, su confianza, y sobre todo, su propio estilo, y cada vez, Yuri siempre va inspirando más a Viktor a redescubrir su pasión por el patinaje..

Claramente, en esta historia no hay que olvidarnos de los personajes secundarios.. aquí es donde entra uno de mis personajes favoritos, y es el feroz Yuri Ruso, por así decirlo, jaja. Un patinador muy encantador y carismático, quien crea una rivalidad con el protagonista, que es graciosa y madura a la vez, pero no solo él, cada personaje, cada patinador que va apareciendo, siento que aporta algo único y memorable.. El anime hace un trabajo fantástico en el desarrollo de estos personajes, dándoles cierta profundidad y motivaciones reales, sobre todo en las competencias, que realmente hace que uno se involucre en sus viajes personales y en su camino hacia triunfar en este deporte..

The soundtrack is another strong point of this anime. The Opening and “History Maker” is a true gem that perfectly captures the energy and excitement of figure skating, and as you watch this anime, the lyrics make much more sense. And the ending, You Only Live Once, is a beautiful, bittersweet ballad that conveys a lot.... I think the soundtrack is one of the best things this anime has... the selection of original music for the skating routines, each piece is perfectly adapted to each character and their performance, I think it's really unique how many people ended up downloading this soundtrack because the songs are just amazing... I have several, haha.

And well, let's talk about the elephant in the room, and the reason why many people have surely dismissed this anime: the representation of a relationship between people of the same sex, and, as I mentioned before, Yuri!!!! on Ice was quite innovative, giving us the representation of a relationship of pure love and support between two men, although it was really a pity that, although they show us this mutual feeling, it is never confirmed 100%, I did not see the sense of it... but well, I feel, it reflects a breath of fresh air, since it does not put characters from the LGBTQ+ community in the background, and does not use them to make people laugh, like many others...

The relationship between these two characters is treated with a lot of sensitivity and respect, I didn't feel it as simple fanservice to please the fujoshis, but it really is a beautiful and touching representation of love in all its forms... although this anime is not about romance as such, I think if you like genuine relationships, that feel truly beautiful and real, watching this relationship you will surely end up very satisfied.

La banda sonora es otro de los puntos fuertes de este anime. El Opening y "History Maker" es un auténtico temazo que capta a la perfección la energía y la emoción del patinaje artístico, y conforme vas viendo este anime, las líricas van cobrando mucho más sentido. Y el ending, You Only Live Once, es una hermosa y agridulce balada que te transmite muchas cosas.. Creo que la banda sonora es de las mejores cosas que tiene este anime.. la selección de música original para las rutinas de patinaje, cada pieza se adapta perfectamente a cada personaje y a su actuación, opino que es realmente único como muchas personas terminaron descargando esta banda sonora porque las canciones simplemente son increíbles.. yo tengo varias, jaja.

Y bueno, hablemos del elefante en la habitación, y la causa por la que seguramente muchas personas han descartado este anime: la representación de una relación entre personas del mismo sexo, y es que, como les había mencionado antes, Yuri!!! on Ice fue bastante innovador, dándonos la representación de una relación de amor puro y apoyo entre dos hombres, aunque fue realmente una lástima que, si bien nos plantean este sentimiento mutuo, nunca se llega a confirmar al 100%, no le ví el sentido a esto.. pero bueno, siento, refleja un soplo de aire fresco, ya que no pone a personajes de la comunidad LGBTQ+ en un segundo plano, y no los utiliza para hacer reír, como muchos otros..

La relación entre estos dos personajes se trata con mucha sensibilidad y respeto, no lo sentí como simple fanservice para complacer a las fujoshis, sino que realmente se trata de una hermosa y conmovedora representación del amor en todas sus formas.. aunque este anime no es de romance como tal, creo que si te gustan las relaciones genuinas, que se sientan verdaderamente bonitas y reales, viendo esta relación seguramente acabes muy satisfecho.

Also the last episodes seemed to me a little slow compared to others, but these are small flaws that can be easily forgotten by the great good points that this series has, and all the emotional depth it transmits.. and although Yuri!!! on Ice did not get its fame from nothing, and I think it has it well deserved, I feel it is a story that transcends and goes far beyond the typical sports anime as such... it's a story that can certainly connect with many viewers, and as always I appreciate that stories are presented that make us know a little unknown sports, and not always go for the same king sports... I think it's something that makes me love sports anime, and it's unique the way in which anime can make you get hooked with certain sports that many other times we have surely discarded because they seem even silly, I hope there are more anime of this style, that dare to represent beautiful sports, and make many people are encouraged to practice it.

This anime was going to have a kind of spin-off movie, but in the end it was never known what happened, and it's a real shame, since there are thousands of fans who were disappointed by this... since it is a story and a background that would have been interesting to explore much further... Well, my final verdict is that I give Yuri!!! on Ice a solid 9/10. Sin embargo, cabe resaltar que este anime no es perfecto, y tiene sus efectos, y creo que el principal defecto es la animación.. aunque en general es buena, y en algunos momentos precisos es impresionante, hay otras veces en las que se siente inconsistente.. Algunos espectadores podrán notar que la calidad baja en ciertos episodios, y se siente chocante estar esperando una animación muy buena, decente, y encontrarse con planos realmente que dan mucho que desear, planos realmente que se nota que no se hicieron con el tiempo y cariño necesario.. si bien no entorpece completamente la experiencia, sí deja mucho que desear en ciertas partes..

También los últimos episodios a mí me parecieron un poco lentos en comparación de otros, pero son pequeños defectos que pueden ser fácilmente olvidados por los grandes puntos buenos que tiene esta serie, y toda la profundidad emocional que transmite.. y es que si bien Yuri!!! on Ice no obtuvo su fama de la nada, y creo que la tiene bien merecida, siento que es una historia que trasciende y va mucho más allá del típico anime de deporte como tal.. es una historia que sin duda puede conectar con muchos espectadores, y como siempre agradezco que se presenten historias que hagan conocer deportes un poco desconocidos, y que no se vayan siempre por los mismos deportes rey.. creo que es algo que me hace amar los animes de deportes, y es que es única la manera en la que el anime puede hacer que te enganches con ciertos deportes que muchas otras veces seguramente hemos descartado porque nos parecen incluso tontos, espero que sigan haya más animes de este estilo, que se atrevan a representar deportes hermosos, y hagan que muchas personas se animen a practicarlo.

Este anime iba a tener una especie de película spin-off, pero al final nunca se supo que paso, y es una verdadera lástima, ya que son miles de fanáticos los que se vieron decepcionados por esto.. ya que es una historia y un trasfondo que si fuera sido interesante explorar mucho más allá... Bueno, mi veredicto final, es que le doy a Yuri!!! on Ice un sólido 9/10. Es una serie imprescindible para cualquier aficionado de los animes deportivos, y de los animes en general, independientemente de sus preferencias de género, esta es una historia que siento que vale la pena.. bueno, esto fue todo por hoy, espero que les haya gustado esta reseña, les dejaré el opening por aquí abajo, y cuéntenme si les ha llamado la atención.
