The Last Time I Saw the Twin Towers on the New York City Skyline - Remembering September 11, 2001 - 22 Years Later

I’ll never forget the last moment I saw the Twin Towers on the New York City skyline…

I was in the Bronx on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001 to watch Andy Pettitte and the Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox, less than 48 hours before the attacks.

The game had an odd 3:20 pm start time, which led to an epic sunset on the way out. As we drove home in my parents old Toyota Sienna mini-van, I had the back seat reclined all the way, and I was laying on my stomach, looking out the back window (a weird thing I often did on road trips as a kid).

I remember pointing out the massive towers on the skyline and watching them fade into the distance as we drove down the Major Deegan Expressway.

Above is a photo of the Yankees lineup from that day (Jeter was out with a strained hamstring).
