Woods, dusk and snow: February 3 2025

avatar

Hubby and I walked in the woodsy local park right at dusk. The sun had already set, and so the few pictures I have are quite dark!

But it was beautiful because we just received some fresh snow and it crunched softly underfoot as we walked along.

I was well bundled up against the cold, as it was about 8 degrees below freezing, but still my toes were feeling it. Fortunately, some fairly fast paced hiking along single track trails that rose and fell with the terrain got my blood moving and they warmed up.

There are some houses bordering the park, and it was nice to see their cheerful lights, including some lingering Christmas lights. Here in Minnesota, many of us keep them lit up until about April because they bring such a warm glow to this dark season and its too-short days.

We came upon a little fort in the woods, built up against the underside of a fallen tree that is braced against another, forming a bridge over the path.

Of course my husband had to give me the creeps and tell me he saw someone in there. I told him I didn’t believe him, but I still got the shivers! I saw a hammock inside, but even in the dim light I could see that it was dusted in snow and the fort was devoid of life.

Sorry it’s hard to see the fort, as the light of the day was almost completely gone.

Well that is all the news that’s fit to print, my friends! Thanks for stopping by.

Oh yes, we are indeed a hearty lot, @silvertop. But we were lamenting not getting there earlier (because my crazy job kept me at my desk), as it would have been so pretty to see their cheerful lights woods in the fresh snow. Not to mention less creepy!

The fort you found sounds mysterious. I would've gotten the chills too if my friend told me they saw someone there.

Yes, I envisioned some kind of horrible woodland creature leaping out and chasing after us! Ha ha. I guess I have an overactive imagination. Thanks for stopping by, @iamlovelykate!

Yes that was my thought exactly, @sydney27. Great minds think alike! I’m sure it looks delightfully innocuous by day. Ha ha.

I am from Margarita Island, Venezuela, the climate is tropical and just looking at the images made me cold, my brothers worked in that city in December. You can't see the sun for a long time
