Home project Saturday - gardening, herb processing and cooking: October 19 2024
Today’s steps were all around the house. As you can see from the first picture, taken in my yard, I have a lot of work to do around the house! So I did some yard cleanup. But it was too daunting so I went back inside and worked in the kitchen! (There’s always tomorrow!!)
My first project was freezing herbs. It’s pretty easy. You just chop them up fine, put them in ice cube trays, cover the hers with oil and stick the trays in the freezer. Then you have them for soups, pasta dishes and sautées.
Here are a few pictures of the process.
Herb chopping - parsley, dill and rosemary:
Starting to load the trays:
All the herbs are in:
Now for the oil (I know it’s hard to tell the difference):
After that I made a big batch of chicken fajitas. I neglected to take any pictures, however!
One does not get a lot of steps when cooking, but all that moving around the kitchen does add up.
And then, because it’s our wedding anniversary, hubby and I went out for dinner and a movie. At least I got some steps by walking between the car and the restaurant, and between the car and the theater!
Well that was my day. Thanks for visiting!

Very interesting I’ve never see herbs, preserved this way in ice cube trays!
And by the way, happy, happy, anniversary!!🤗😊🤗
Thank you, @silvertop! Yes it's a great way to deal with herbs that will otherwise spoil.
I think the Mrs is going to give this a try great idea!😊
Those little steps indeed do add up....
I didn't know that they could freeze up herbs like that... But why use oil?
Happy anniversary ✨
The oil helps to maintain the integrity of the herbs. Otherwise they will dry out and get "freezer burn." Look for info online when you get a chance, @seki1. You can also butter.
